At 800 points, it's very difficult to recommend. Fun for a while though.

The latest in the Family Game Night for Xbox Live Arcade series is Boggle. While many other board games focus on moving a plastic piece across a board, Boggle focuses on simple word searching. This fact makes Boggle very light on content, but heavy on fun.

Boggle on the Live Arcade is the same as its board game counterpart, for better or for worse. The gameplay is very simple. The only objective is to find words that are hidden in the letter puzzle on screen. Before a round starts, you shuffle the puzzle, then the word search begins. Each word can be found in a combination of horizontal, vertical, and diagonal points. Once you have found a word, you score points based on how large the word was.

One of the features of this digital version of Boggle are the few difficulty modes you can choose from. There are three modes offered in total: Original, Advanced, and Word Search. Original mode is exactly what one could expect–Boggle with a standard rule set that Boggle veterans have mastered. Advanced mode is a bit of a twist on the original game, in that after each word found, the puzzle is shuffled again. This makes things a bit more difficult, especially to find words with more letters. Word Search is the easiest mode of all, simply because it tells you exactly which words to find as you're playing.

Another feature that enhances Boggle is the inclusion of online play. With this, you are able to go one on one with anyone across the globe. I imagine for classic fans of Boggle, this is a welcome addition. The online play seemed lag free, but I can't imagine why it would have any considering there isn't much going on.

Overall, Boggle is a decent addition to the Live Arcade catalog, and especially for fans of board games. Boggle's biggest issue is of course, the price. At 800 points, it's very difficult to recommend. The game is light on content, and I'm not a fan of the Family Game Night interface either. As a fan of Boggle though, you're going to love it due to it being true to its source. This is definitely a game to try before you buy.
