E3 2008: 1 vs. 100 Impressions
Microsoft shows off the first game that will launch as part of its Xbox Live Primetime service. Real prizes to be won!
Earlier today, Microsoft afforded attendees of its E3 2008 Media Briefing a first glimpse at the previously unannounced 1 vs. 100. Based on Endemol's TV game show of the same name, the game will purportedly be the first to be featured on the just-announced Xbox Live Primetime service and will also feature support for the Xbox 360's new Mii-like avatars.
We didn't get to see much in the way of 1 vs. 100 gameplay on this occasion, but it seems reasonable that it will stick with the same format as the US version of the TV show. In other words, a lone contestant is pitted against 100 others and tasked with answering multiple-choice questions. Members of the 100-strong "mob" are eliminated as soon as they get a question wrong, and the value of each question goes up for the solo player as the mob thins out. The solo players can opt to walk away with their winnings at any time, but once they elect to try another question, they must try to answer it. If they get it wrong, it's game over, and the money is divided among the remaining mobsters.
Besides giving you an opportunity to pit your wits and the good looks of your avatar against those of 100 other players, 1 vs. 100 gives you a chance to win real prizes as you play. What form those prizes will take isn't clear at this time.
We look forward to bringing you more information on 1 vs. 100 as soon as it becomes available.
