Since it's release earlier this year, Criterion's action-packed racer has benefited from some major free updates that have added more cars, more challenges, new online game modes, and even introduced motorcycles to the game.

I checked out the review cos I have Burnout Paradise and love it a lot. But Im a bit gutted that this was Alex's last review. I really enjoyed his reviews. He always seemed to be really into the games he was reviewing and I found him to be fun and informative. What's he doing now? I will miss him.

Great game with great graphics and an excellent feeling of speed. Better than the trashy series of nfs (excluding most wanted, carbon and back on the series). This game just kicks a$$.

In no review i've seen so far has there been any mention of how horrible the cars handle. You can't skid very good as the cars have super-grip, the e-brake will stop you in about 2 seconds flat regardless your speed and the clunky camera only adds to it feeling awkward to control the cars. Maybe it's changed with patches, i dunno...
The only things i like about it is the fact that there's this open city to drive around in and that the scope of the game is free, aggressive, competitive driving. While content and add-on content is top notch considering they're still adding stuff after a year on the market - It does not overshadow how a very basic thing such as car control is so off.

Alex Navarro, Jeff Germann and Ryan Davis... WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO GAMESPOT?

  • lister82

    Posted Jan 22, 2009 10:35 am PT

I was really looking forward to finally playing paradise, loved all the other ones before it, well not sure if i fully played the first.

I've played it for about 2 days now and i am about to stop playing it because i have never felt like im wasting so much time in a game like i do in paradise with the no retry opinion. Yea i know ppl have said about it before saying its fine etc. but for me and i know alot of others this has ruined the game fun wise, don't get me wrong everything in the game is great with the crashing, all the races and all, but why o why did criterion not put a retry option in. I even found myself getting angry when i failed a burning route for the 4th time by like 1 second and the ghey DJ saying something along the lines of "o hearing reports of another failed burning route" or something similiar as i begin my epic journey back to the other side of the map again, its almost like they thought in the staff meeting that it would make the game last longer.

I just want to know what the harm would be to put it in the game it would just make it alot more enjoyable doing races etc, since all it causes is frustration and alot of wasted time imo.
