Sony reprises Symphony of the Night

Konami's original PlayStation Castlevania game now downloadable for PS3, PSP through console's online store.

Short of a stake through the heart, you can't keep a good bloodsucker down, and Konami's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is one of the best.

As such, it's no surprise that the game keeps coming back, with its latest incarnation being a downloadable original PlayStation game released on the PlayStation 3 this week. And just like the rest of the PlayStation Store offerings from the original Sony console, the game can be transferred to a PlayStation Portable.

However, unlike the rest of the original PlayStation offerings and their $5.99 asking prices, Symphony of the Night sports a $9.99 tag. While that puts Symphony of the Night above games on the service like Tekken 2 or Crash Bandicoot, the price is more in line with the recently released Xbox Live Arcade edition of the game, which sells for 800 Microsoft points ($10).

Other new additions to the PS3 online store include trailers for Gran Turismo 5, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, and Infamous. A "behind-the-scenes" look at Heavenly Sword, as well as a half-dozen feature-film trailers, including one for the upcoming Resident Evil: Extinction, have also been added.

It's funny how it comes up under Xbox Live Arcade, but not under PlayStation Network.

The PSone download is better than the port on dracula x chronicles for PSP, as the dialogue has been dubbed with new voice acting on the crappy psp version. Also, the color is too vibrant on dracula x chronicles. IF YOU WANT THIS ON YOUR PSP, download it from the playstation store, I was very dis-satisfied with the Dracula X chronicles version, although the other two games in the package are on point.

I love this game. I have the original PS version, and the XBLA version. The XBLA version does look and sound better, of course, and don't forget achievements which gives you more of an incentive to play. But I can't stand the control pad on the 360 controller. I hate it!!! It makes casting spells like soul steal a terribly frustrating experience. I thought maybe it was my two worn out controllers, so I used my brothers brand new black controller. Same stupid control pad issue. I never remember any of these control problems on the PS version. None. I'd prefer the PS version for a more nostalgic feel of control, but the XBLA version ultimitely has more value...But I really think MS needs to do something about the 360 control pad... because it sucks really bad!!

Favorite game of all time, then GoldenEye and Super Mario 3.
Now for the ps3 to arrive in the mail....
However i still have my hard copy, so why but it? They should have released the Sega Saturn Version with the extra rooms and stuff. Might have been worth it to me. But everyone else should get it fo sho.

Down'd it last last, works great. Wish there was independent sound controls for music and sound effects. Effects seem a bit loud. XD

I for one love this I just completed all the achievements on the 360 version they were fun and not overly hard. Just being able to dive back into SotN was the best experience. When I purchase one of the new PSP's I will also be getting the Castlevania game (FF:Tactics is a definite though). I dont own a PS3 and if I did I probably wouldn't DL it if I had in handheld form but I think having the choice is excellent. Brilliant move SONY!

What does upset me is that Alucard has such a wide fanbase why won't Konami give him another game. PoR was the closest Alucard experience for me. Maybe it was just the sidescrolling RPG element which I find so intriguing.

A little pricey but for a game that still sells for $40 on Ebay even though it's years old, I'd say it's not such a bad deal.

I just read all the comments posted about this topic (sad, I kow, but it's slow at work this morning). Crikey, so many complaints from such an ungrateful bunch.

So WHAT if you can soon buy Dracula X: Chronicles and unlock SoTN? Not everybody owns a PSP or wants to spend £30-£40. Puting SoTN up online is just Konami's way of giving you more options. You'd only complain if they DIDN'T release any games to the Playstation Network.

As for the frankly pathetic Xbox360 vs PS3 argument: There are more appropriate places to have such a silly "war". SoTN is a AAA+ game no matter what you play it on. Just buy the copy that suits your Gaming lifestyle. If you're lucky enough to own both consoles and a PSP, then it's up to you to decide how important Achievments are versus portability. Either way, stop complaining about it here. It's boring.

Fact is, Konami have had the good will to provide NUMEROUS ways of getting hold of a absolute classic - one that could prove very difficult to find an original copy of these days.

Stop whinging and be happy about it.

Making SOTN available for download shouldn't hurt the sales for Dracula X Chronicles. And if Dracula X Chronicles hurts the sales of SOTN, what difference does it make? It's only available for download, it's not like Sony has a bunch of discs in stock that won't sell now. This move does not hurt Sony or Konami.

Is Sony they trying to sabotage themselves and their portable after singling out Dracula X Chronicles in their E3 PSP presentation? I guess they figure nobody wants the PS3 so they might as well stab themselves in the back again. Next thing you know Rondo will show up on all three systems for download and Konami is royally screwed.

BTW lsnake... Star Ocean 1 & 2 are coming to the PSP.

    Castlevania. Ah, the classics.

    $10? Definitely worth it.
