Castlevania sinks fangs into XBLA next week

Konami set to release Symphony of the Night on Wednesday for 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

One of the most highly regarded PlayStation games ever made has a date with the Xbox 360. Microsoft today announced that Konami's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, one of GameSpot's Greatest Games of All Time, will debut on Xbox Live Arcade this coming Wednesday at 2 a.m. PDT.

As the first title to be brought over to Live Arcade from another console, Symphony of the Night will feature "modernized" sound, widescreen support, achievements, and leaderboards. Players will be able to choose between the original graphics or altered visuals that address sprite pixelation when the game is played in high definition.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is rated T for Teen and will be available for 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

thepalatinepoet: Was that really necessary? No need to get ruthless over classic games that get a great make-over. Oh and on that note, Rare is a great company that brought tons of great games to Nintendo until they were moved around. MS just helped themselves to a good deal. I would buy a 10 dollar Arcade remake of Goldeneye with improved graphics and controls.

The Complex on XBL multiplayer is enough to make any fan salivate.

@ thepalatinepoet: that was uncalled for. I mean heaven forbid someone should have a different opinion on a 10 year old game than you do.

If we could see The Simpsons on XBLA I would be in heaven. That game multi-player is just great! However don't limit our lives for the online play.

Great game. Too bad Microsoft bought the rights to it. A sad day for video games.

....No comment. Idiot. I'm entirely pleased at how the classics are being bought up by Sony and Msoft while Nintendo pretty much just reaches into its great big bag of classic games (that I admit may or may not have aged respectably) and pulls out new stuff every week. Good going, guys. Way to try and beat Nintendo. I was hoping the VC would get it, too. But then again, you're the same company that tried to buy Donkey Kong. Proud, proud people.

I never got to play this game, but I've loved other Castlevania games. I'm getting this for sure.

From what I hear, Digital Eclipse is porting this title. They are VERY good at porting old games to new platforms, so if they screw it up, all hope for humanity may be lost...

Kudos to MS, and suck on that Nintendo. While the Big N only seems to do horrible 20 year old 8 bit games(Kid Icarus), or n64 games that have aged horribly(Zelda), MS auctully gets an awesome playable game.

if I had an X360, and it weren'f for the fact that I have this for PS1 I would go for it in a heartbeat.

But it would be better if they based it on the Saturn version, and not the PS one. The Saturn had two extra parts of the castle, and Maria playable.

Yet another classic to grace Xbox Live. Kudos Microsoft, and further kudos to Konami for yet another stellar port.

If I had to make a request to Microsoft, or Midway rather, it's to follow in Ubisoft's footsteps in bringing Ninja Turtles to XBLA in commeration of the TMNT film (the modernized icons were a nice touch btw). While I think the movie is going to be absolute crap (given that the last 6 seasons have been barely watchable), please please PLEASE bring The Simpsons Arcade to XBLA in honor of the upcoming Simpsons Movie.

Pull that off and you'd set yourself in a stratosphere unlike any other.

enoslives...you are aware that is actually a Sony marketing campaign for the PS1 and that it had more games, good to amazing games than any other system during that period, right?

    Yeah...thought so.

i don't see how everyone thinks TMNT was a godsend for Live Arcade. it sucked. it was boring, repetitive, and way too simple. hopefully they added something to this game before re-hashing it.

    KoruKinsha:

[1]And to hell with the PS3/PSP getting Castlevania. They don't deserve the franchise anymore.

[2]and it represented the completed product on the Saturn.

    1) Konami begs to differ, enjoy spending upwards of $100 on Rondo.

    2) DEAR GOD NO! Nocturne in the Moonlight for Saturn was crap compared to the original, it had more slowdown, crappy extra areas that if anything detracted from the game, no transparencies, worse effects all around aside from that and wasn't even made by the same team!

Somehow I don't think that SoTN would lend itself well..AT ALL to co-op to be quite honest.

If you want co-op go help the guys making Castlevania Online its designed around that.

In any case, somehow I seriously doubt this will be as good as the original. One of the strongest points of the original was atmosphere and with those borders enveloping everything I doubt it will come across nearly as well in this version.

Also dtfann...I already own the original for PS1 and it can be bought for roughly the same price as this, so your argument is crap.
