Watchmen game clocks in at $20

Warner Bros. confirms price point for first downloadable episode of PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 film tie-in.

On March 6, movie audiences will learn the answer to the question/marketing slogan "Who watches the Watchmen?" when the comic-based feature film arrives in theaters. The same week, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will learn the answer to a much more important question: Who watches their wallets?

A representative with the publisher today confirmed that Watchmen: The End Is Nigh will cost $19.99 on the PlayStation 3 and PC download service Steam, and an equivalent 1,600 Microsoft points on the Xbox 360. Developed by Deadline Games (Total Overdose, Chili Con Carnage), The End Is Nigh is a 3D action brawler featuring split-screen cooperative play for two.

Set before the events of the film, The End Is Nigh follows film protagonists Rorschach and Nite Owl during their days as a crime-fighting duo cleaning up the streets. The game is intended to fill in backstory alluded to but never discussed in any detail in the comic and the movie.

While significantly more expensive (and more expansive) downloadable games are available on the PS3 (Warhawk, SOCOM Confrontation) and Steam (the service regularly carries full-price new releases), the $20 price point of Watchmen ties it as the most expensive Xbox Live Arcade title to date. Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One is the only other Live Arcade game to debut with an asking price of 1,600 Microsoft points.

The download was perfect. I don't like DC but this may reel me in. I just hope that the full download has additional characters. This could of been in the stores...

Thought this was supposed to be a play-the-movie (i.e.full length) game.

i miss the good old days when original movies and games came out now everything is a remake or a sequal "

What like Mirror's Edge and Dead Space out a few months back from the king of cookie-cutter sequels that is Electronic Arts?

This is supposed to last 3-4 hours gameplay-wise. 1600 does not cut it.

Ugh, why is it that people assume that no disc=silly distraction. Sure a bunch of arcade games are just that, remakes of arcade games not worth more than 5 dollars, but The Lost and Damned was downloadable and i played that for over 15 hours. Both episodes of the Penny Arcade games were incredibly well done RPG's which gave me many memories to cherish, and they were 1200 not 1600. This is the dawn of the download and I hope people get over their gay love affair for the disc soon.

it looks good, also $20 or about £10-£15 in UK is not so bad, its not like its bad, lost and damned, penny arcades and other games on psn (even so they are more of retail games but downloadable) i think it will be ok nothing great but nothing bad.

Wow 20 dollars is pretty steep for a downloadable game. So as much as I love Watchmen, I think I'll give this a miss

Hmm... I'll wait for the review before I cast any comment. I can get another 1600 MS points card for £14, as I just have done for Lost & Damned, so as long as the game is decent, £14 seems like a good price for it

Why is everyone so friggin' negative?
This is a game for Watchmen fans, sorry you don't want to spend $20 for a game you're not interested in. As for me, $20 is a small price to pay to crack some skulls with Rorschach for several hours.

This thread and comments about a game by people that haven't come within 1,000 miles of it despairs me. I can see, just through this thread, how gamers are their own worst enemies. I can see why games companies are as arrogant as they are and look on gamers as immature idiots that deserve every DRM'ed, shallow, buggy game they get, because this thread is showing gamers in exactly that immature idiotic way! I mean, just read these posts and you'll see! But dare, just dare to say HL2 EP1 was a $20 rip off with just 5 hours of gameplay and boy! You'll get a different response! I give up on most gamers now like I have already given upon most games publishers!

We pay and pay and pay. with the current thread of 1600 ive stopped downloading Arcade titles its too much for games you can get for free on miniclip imo.

I used to one love it when every title to come out on Xbox LIVE Arcade was either 400 or 800 Microsoft Points. That was quite short-lived.

When I get 1600, I'm probably going to join the rest and get the GTA IV DLC.
