Terminator Salvation GRIN-ning

Warner Bros. enlists PC GRAW and Bionic Commando Rearmed developer to craft third-person sci-fi shooter based on forthcoming fourth Terminator film.

In November 2007, media startup The Halcyon Company announced the formation of a games division focused on film adaptations. Right out of the gate, the company scored two of the most coveted game licenses of sci-fi cinema: Blade Runner, Ridley Scott's 1982 future-noir thriller, and Terminator, the series inspired by James Cameron's seminal 1984 actioner. Specifically, the latter rights were for Terminator: Salvation, the fourth installment in the franchise that also inspired the ongoing television show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

For the intervening year, little was heard about the Terminator Salvation game other that it was set to launch on "all platforms" alongside the film in 2009. Today, the project resurfaced with the announcement Halcyon is partnering with four other companies to work on the project. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE), the game arm of Terminator film studio Warner Bros., will distribute the game, with unknowns Swiss-based Equity Games and UK-based Evolve games copublishing.

The fifth firm involved with Terminator Salvation is Stockholm, Sweden-based developer GRIN. Founded in 1997, the shop is best known for handling the well-reviewed PC ports of Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. It also developed Bionic Commando Rearmed and the forthcoming game adaptation of the film Wanted for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

Though it now has no specific release date, the Terminator Salvation game is described as an "intense" third-person actioner that "complements the upcoming film." Said film is set for release next summer, and will be directed by Joseph "McG" Nichol (Charlie's Angels), and stars Christian Bale (The Dark Knight), rapper Common (American Gangster), Bryce Dallas Howard (Spider-Man 3), and Sam Worthington (Cameron's forthcoming Avatar). Set in the postapocalyptic ruins of 2018, it follows a group of humans righting the robot armies of Skynet, the artificial intelligence that launched a nuclear holocaust to wipe out humanity.

As far as the movie goes i'm with the majority of people, how can you make a Terminator film without the Terminator, they take good films then try and milk them even more, Aliens/Predator another example, leave it alone and stop making rubbish movies, if the movies rubbish i doubt the game will be anything special.

Film wise i thought T3 was pretty good to be honest, T2 is the best but T3 had some pretty great action scenes even if the story wasnt great..

I just think them making a sort of retelling of the original Terminator isnt so good, they should have had arnie in it somewhere.. or waited for him to step down as governor and even if he didnt have a big part in the film it wouldnt be a terminator film without him imo.

as for the game, no idea but usually they dont end up too good.

My hopes are never high for movie based games, but this one might turn out ok.Hopefully they'll right the wrong of the last film(awful), and the even larger wrong of the tv show(awfuler).I hope they port the T2 arcade shooter in with this one, as a nostalgic bonus too.

I cant see this being any good they shouldnt even be making a fourth one of these movies and never should have been a 3rd one t2 was and is the best and explained everything no need for anything more and just try to cash in on it is some weak a** *hit

    I don't know.. a game, based on a fourth movie (a post-quel?)... T3 wasn't that good.

A really great story is "T2 : Infiltraitor" (novel) by S. M. Sterling was what the 3rd movie should have been. Takes place 10 years after T2 and all the characters have aged approprietly. Even explains why the T800 has an austrian/german accent.

I really hope that they dont ruin the terminator series. 1 and 2 are awesome. 3 was ok, but they didnt need to make any more. Now that they have, they have to finish the war, but hopefully they dont just turn it into a pop culture thing that ruins a lot of sequels...ie Matrix, StarWars, Rocky, Indy, etc.... Yea, maybe they are ok movies, but do we really need sequels to everything??? Saw 6, Back to the future 4, etc...

@cmon007: Come on its just nostalgia making you think Batman(1989) was good. Truth is it was bad and so was Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker.

Doubt this movie is going to be good at all because Arnold isn't in it. You can't make a terminator movie without the Terminator himself!

tell them to put in a little more creative than run-n-gun...then maybe it won't be 'just another movie tie-in'...
