Sonic Unleashed Question

How does Empire City fit into the plot?

Empire City is absent from the Wii version, and I haven't heard much about what happens in the 360 version. How does Empire City fit into the plot of the game, and what is the reason for going there in the first place?

Hmm... Is there anything else that happens? Say, are there any references to past cities (Central City, Station Square, Westopolis, etc.) or the United Federation by talking to the people there?

Contrary to what people are saying here, this area ISN'T a plothole. This is what you get when you don't pay attention.

Eggman, being the evil man he is, was trying to take over the city with his robots. Professor Pickle, villagers in Shamar and city dwellers in Empire City will mention it when you talk to them.

Of course, it really isn't specified why, since there isn't a shrine there...could be just an attempt to waste Sonic's time so he could get to the next temple first. Of course, being the fastest thing alive cancels things out. And Sonic, being the helpful guy he is, needs no urging to try and bail out a city, especially when Eggy's involved.

If you try and beat the missions involving the kid from Shamar who wants to be a singer, spunky lil' Kate and the producer, Def Big, you'll see neon signs in the corresponding nighttime based missions that speak of "Soleana Hotel", "Pachamac Parking Lot" and "Chao Beans", all references to the Sonic Adventure titles and Sonic '06. Also, in the main Empire City daytime level, you'll see on the highway signs that the streets are named after some familiar Sonic characters.

I think the real question is, where is GUN in all of this? And why are you all complaining about having an extra level? If you don't want unnecessary levels, you should've gotten the Wii version, it's not in this one. XD

  • It really doesn't have a plot in the game, basically while you are in shamar the professor goes " hey.........go hang out in empire city for a while.......erm.......ya " and thats how you end up there.
  • Sonic games are always full of plot holes (despite using more or less the exact same plot for every game). Empire City is just a way to shove more load times into the game (just like Sonic 'next gen') and cheese people off. There's no point to Empire City.
  • There's a boss key there! Otherwise, its just for the heck of it. A few side missions end up there and the Act 1 day stage is pretty good. Thats all there is to it.
  • I think Empire City was unfinished. The Hub world for it is okay, but the gate entrance hub world is empty. Reminds me of Sonic 06 hub world.
  • Empire City is a place to finish off multiple side quests at. A lot of missions end there and there are a couple of missions to start there as well....
To the main story, it does nothing at all. It's just there to look awesome and give you another three stages to do.
  • You can do a bit of the Hedgehunk achievement here by talking to the slightly flamboyant guy. Also, once you convince the aspiring singer in Shamar to seek his dream, he'll end up at Empire City and provide you with some missions.
  • It's one of the places you have to go to win the game.
  • It is one of the places that you are told to go to win the game.
  • Empire City is close to shamar, and the professor says you may want to go there. You have to do a few of it's levels (Some are ridiculous... There are SAW BLADES sticking out from the skyscrapers) to beat the game. It has no temple, so is understated. Also, a man referred to as 'boss' goes there after you do a few of his missions, but apart from that it's nothing but an america-related plot hole.
  • I believe Empire City's Plot importance may not be what it originally was. What I mean is that it probably had large plot significance, but that might have been taken out, so that Wii players didn't feel like they were missing out on anything.

The problem is, they're missing out on an extremely fun Day level, and a clever/challenging/annoying Night level.

This is all specuation, of course.
