Activision recruiting for Secret Service

Publisher wants Xbox 360, PS2, and PC players willing to take a virtual bullet for the president in budget-priced game coming later this year.

The US Secret Service has proven fertile inspirational ground for films, having been the subject of thrillers such as In the Line of Fire and To Live and Die in LA, to name a few. However, the federal law-enforcement agency doesn't get nearly as much play in the world of games.

Activision is doing its part to change that, given that the publisher announced today Secret Service for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PC. The game puts players into the president's security detail on Inauguration Day, right as the capital comes under attack from unknown parties. Activision is promising a twisting story that will require players to kill and/or subdue threats as the Service attempts to ferret out the reasons behind the attacks and the people responsible.

If that sounds familiar, it might be because Vin Diesel's Tigon Studios announced its own Secret Service game nearly four years ago. That project was to be made in collaboration with X-Men and Usual Suspects director Bryan Singer, but has not materialized. However, Activision representatives told GameSpot that this project is in no way related to Tigon's Secret Service, and is being developed by Slovakian studio Cauldron, the outfit behind last year's Soldier of Fortune: Payback.

Activision's Secret Service will launch later this year for $39.99 on the Xbox 360, $29.99 on the PS2, and $19.99 on the PC. The game has not been authorized by the actual US Secret Service.

Wait what?! NINJAS?! FINALLY! No stupid, cheesy terrorist organizations capturing the president! It's about time someone had the balls to add ninjas in the fray!

Does this game have anything to do with the older Secret Service games that Activision Value did?

How completely unrealistic. How many gunfights have the Secret Service that guard the president been in in the last 8 years? Zero. I ain't playing this game.

Will the president character model look like George W. Bush? Or will they wait till Nov. 4th and put in either Obama or McCain, depending on who wins?

I think this could be interesting, though I'm not a huge fan of activision's games. We'll have to see where this goes.
