E3 06: More stars doing lines for Scarface

Vivendi announces second round of big-time voice talent signed to appear in The World is Yours.

Vivendi Games' upcoming adaptation of Brian De Palma's 1983 film Scarface won't feature new voice work from the film's star, Al Pacino. But while gamers will have to settle for Pacino's likeness and a few canned lines from the original film, it appears a significant portion of the rest of the film industry will be contributing voice work for the game.

The latest roster from Vivendi includes original Scarface cast member Al Isreal, who played Hector the Toad, rapper/actor Ice T (Leprechaun in the Hood, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo), Oliver Platt (Bulworth, Ready to Rumble), Elliott Gould (M.A.S.H., Ocean's Eleven), Anthony Anderson (King's Ransom, Exit Wounds), Michael Rooker (Slither, Mallrats), Jason Mewes (Mallrats, My Big Fat Independent Movie), Tommy Chong (Half-Baked, the Cheech and Chong films), Richard Roundtree (Shaft, Corky Romano), Tiny Lister (Friday, former WWF wrestler Zeus), Bai Ling (Red Corner, Lords of Dogtown), Bam Margera (Haggard: The Movie, Viva La Bam), Wilmer Valderrama (That 70s Show, the upcoming remake of CHiPs), Daniel Dae Kim (Crash, Lost), Willa Holland (The O.C.), Roma Maffia (Nip/Tuck), Robert LaSardo (Nip/Tuck), Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives), Ricky Gervais (The Office), Rick Yune (Die Another Day), Kevin Dillon (Entourage), Jerry Ferrara (Entourage), Cree Summer (Drawn Together), rapper N.O.R.E., rocker Tommy Lee, Cypress Hill's B. Real and Sen Dog, and NASCAR racer Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

Previously announced cast members include original Scarface actors Steven Bauer (real name: Esteban Echevarria) and Robert Loggia, as well as James Woods (who was also in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and both PlayStation 2 Kingdom Hearts games), Jay Mohr (from TV's Action), Cheech Marin (Masked and Anonymous, the Cheech and Chong films), Michael York (Logan's Run, Austin Powers), Michael Rappaport (Grand Theft Auto III, TV's The War at Home), Miguel Sandoval (Blow), and Robert Davi (Licence to Kill).

Scarface: The World is Yours is set to release on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC, with the already announced Xbox 360 version presumably to follow.

Holy crap. I was thinking this would be a weak GTA ripoff as well, but I'm hoping that this much attention to talent also translates into high amount of attention to the gameplay. Of course, Christopher Walken was in True Crime: NYC and they still made a crappy game.

Okay... I'm already juiced over seeing Cheech and Chong back together again! With all the other great B & C actors onboard, this is a title I'll pick up to play just to see the storyline.

All the Hollywood voice actors in the world won't make a bit of difference if the gameplay is crap. GTA rip-off's don't usually fare all that well, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Al Pacino personally hand-picked the voice actor to portray him in the game. Can't remember which magazine I read it from. Last months PSM maybe.

    Dear Gamespot,

Sometimes I get really annoyed when your news headline puns confuse me and it sounds like a game company is closing or has had a great calamity befall it but it turns out you were trying to find a way to cleverly say that their game has gone gold. For the record, this headline has gone a long way to rectify those past indiscretions.

    Sincerely,
    Me

If Jay and Silent Bob are in this game, I'll play it, despite how much I argue it doesn't really work with the film...

Kinda sucks that Pacino isn't doing the voicework but overall it's an excellent cast.
