Scarface enters music biz

VU Games holds contest for unsigned to acts have songs featured in upcoming film-based game.

New York native and hip-hop star Nas once said, "Who's world is this?" The reply was "The world is yours," a nod to Scarface, the 1983 film directed by Brian De Palma and starring Al Pacino. The game's protagonist was embraced by the hip-hop community for his perseverance, overcoming of adversity, and pit bull-like mentality.

So it's no wonder then that VU Games today announced that it is holding a talent search for unsigned musical artists--hip-hop and otherwise--to be featured in its forthcoming game adaptation of Scarface. Entrants can log onto the Scarface: The World Is Yours Video Game Soundtrack Talent Search page at Myspace.com to enter.

Following the March 7 deadline, one track from each of 20 finalists will be posted on the Scarface Myspace page to be voted on by the public until March 28. The winning song will be included on the game's soundtrack, and the winning artist will open for a "major label headline act" at a VU Games concert event at Electronic Entertainment Expo 2006 in May in Los Angeles.

    If (C)RAP is added to this game then the whole "Scarface" experience will go down the tubes. This was based in the early 80's in Miami. A hotbed for the classic 80's techno and latin genre.. I don't recall ANY (C)RAP being in the movie or even over the airwaves in the early 80's. If they add any of this "myspace" stuff it should be on a download-only basis, not bundled with the actual game. A professionally developed game should NOT contain music created by amateurs. If I'm going to be paying $60 for this game it better not contain any sort of (C)RAP since it was not even close to being relevant to the movie.

    According to the page they want Rap/Rock/80's/Reggaeton/Latin, which would work for the mid 80s.

    I actually enjoyed the movie. But if my memory is good then i can say alot of games based on movies, or from a movie usually end up being crap. Regardless of what music is in this i will not buy it. I gave up on consoles, i am happy with my DS. I dont play my PS2 anymore, got tired of Socom 3. I cant wait for Metroid. I love the Wi-Fi on the DS it is highly enjoyable. I havent bought a single game for the gamecube since R.E. 4 . The Console releases have been real depressing. After a while you get tired of Paying $50 to play another crappy
    game.

    Yal know il be down with this rizil, joking I think they should stick with the orignal music, but il rather have some raper with talent than say some generic gangsta. For yalll homies down in the ezay, il give u 3 thumps up for beineg a tizi,l dizil. mizil, and for having such qizil mom in my vizil bed yal. I should audition for this bizil

    OMG , changing the end of the story kindof messed the scarface way already...BUT PUTTING RAP IN A CLASSIC?! This is insane......I thought the potential ps3 price was nuts, but this!!! VU games, i hate to say it BUT YOU SUCK!

    File this one under "Dumb". C'mon, now, rap in the Scarface game? How is that going to remain fatihful to the movie, by the way, since I don't believe there was any rap in the film?

    Sounds lame. Something tells me that this is not a good idea for a successful game. What a shame for Scarface lovers.

    The original music will probably be somewhere in there too. Neat idea though, can't wait to listen to the 20 finalists on MySpace, see if anyone good pops up.
