Saboteur laying charges Dec. 8

Pandemic Studios' open-world action adventure set in Nazi-occupied Paris sets sights on Xbox 360, PS3, PC later this year.

EA's Pandemic Studios has been on a tepid run of late, having disappointed critics first with Mercenaries 2: World in Flames in August 2008 and then again with Lord of the Rings: Conquest early this year. With its latest effort, The Saboteur, being a centerpiece to EA's 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference last month, Pandemic Studios will soon have a chance to end its cold streak.

Today, EA and Pandemic announced that The Saboteur will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on December 8. Having been announced in March 2007, The Saboteur's final deadline marks the end of a protracted development cycle that saw EA purchase Pandemic, along with fellow VG Holding Corp. partner BioWare, for $860 million.

The Saboteur brings a stylish twist to the all-too-familiar World War II genre. Instead of the traditional linear structure of most WWII shooters, The Saboteur is an open-world action adventure game a la Mercenaries. Taking the role of Irish-racecar-driver-turned-resistance-fighter Sean Devlin, players are encouraged to wreak covert havoc upon the Third Reich in Nazi-occupied France.

    pandemics' games are disappointed lately, first Mercenaries 2 then lord of rings early this year, hope this game can stop the streaks

    At least its not another repetitive WWII shooter, looks like the last WWII game Im buying, it looks good enough to have fun, not the best game around but fun.

    I always imagined this kind of game ... GTA of third reich ... I can't wait to play this game ...

    my only hesitation is that I don't like how Mercs 2 controlled.... I would imagine that this would be similar...

    looks good. but gameplay looks very poor. going up those step had clipping issues, he bumped into the back of the soldier and nothing happened (thats bad because it last gen) the driving is looked very unrealistic. this game should definitaly look at GTA 4s physics engine to help them out. for the next game they bring out.

    The game is looking great and erupting with style...and i actually kinda liked mercs. 2, it was fun once you got past the obvious flaws

    I hope this game ends up being good. I've got such high hopes for it, it's nice to see a game set during WWII that isn't a first person shooter, or even focusing that much on combat. Of course, I had hopes for Velvet Assassin, and we see how that turned out...

    I played Mercenaries 2 and it's not that bad game really though a little linear for my tastes as when you piss off one faction their missions are locked out for good with no way to regain trust. That means you have to replay the enitre story over just to play them. Hopefully Pandemic does not design The Saboteur with this in mind.

    This game looks like a game you would see mid-summer release or something, not attempting to fill a fall / christmas release. I think it will be swallowed up by the competition... too bad really it seems to have an interesting premise... sorta stealthy / actiony WWII game. Beats the WW2 FPS crap we have been bombarded with.

    I don't really know what to think about this one. I thought Mercenaries was OK, but I think I'll wait to see what other game sites grade it. I'll have to check multiple sites, mainly because Gamespot is really critical of most games that I find pretty fun, so unless it's Halo or GTA, it isnt going to get a decent review on this site.

    dissapointed critics? sure basically gamespot who moaned at mercs 2 majority of reviews were 7s and 8s. this should be quite good.

    Looking forward to this one... love the art style. The gameplay looks like Assassins Creed, GTA and Red Faction Guerilla elements are rolled into one. Yes please!

    Wasnt really impressed with the in game video, seemed to runnie-gunnie for me, much rather prefer SC: Conviction (personally).
