In two weeks' time, Ubisoft will be giving gamers around the globe a look at the Prince of Persia's new, decidedly illustrated, clothes. Not one to quickly scamper back to his palace, however, the prince is apparently in line to receive a substantial chunk of downloadable content as well.

In an interview with Gamersyde, Ubisoft Montreal producer Ben Mattes revealed that, if all goes according to plan, Prince of Persia will receive an add-on experience, perhaps in 2009. "We certainly have plans for downloadable content," said Mattes. "We can't really say more than that right now."

Not to belie that statement, the producer went ahead and said some more anyway. "The intention is to do downloadable content that adds significant value, so I don't think you'll see downloadable content of a new skin or a new weapon or something like that," he continued. "If we're going to do it, it's going to be a new story, a new experience, maybe a prequel, maybe a sequel. We're going to do something that really offers a lot of value for the player."

Prince of Persia is expected to arrive on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on December 2. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's recently published preview.

Dude, I don't have Xbox LIVE, but if it's worth the $50 year subscription, then I will go LIVE.

Yes, this may be good news for those who truly plan to buy this game. However, for those who are more interested in just renting (like me) will find little interests in DLC for this game as well as for any other game that we would like to rent. Personally, I have to say that renting is better because you can play and beat various games within one month. If you are a really good player, it is even possible for someone to play over 15 games, or even 30 games. Renting is better because not only are you not paying $60 for each game that you play, but you are then more motivated to beat a game as soon as possible, and you pay more attention at all times, as to what the game has to offer.

Of course, this is simply an opinion of mine. Nothing more, so anyone can choose whether they will buy a game or rent it. For me, renting is more valuable because I don't become so attached to a particular game and it allows me to save lots of money, while also allowing me to explore various games with all kinds of concepts that span a variety of different genres. DLC is a good way to attract more attention for a certain game, for it leaves a buyer/collector wanting to get more out of a game. Consumerism is something hard to avoid for society. Not that this is anything wrong, but I personally don't like the idea of being a huge consumer. Consuming a moderate amount of something (not too little, not too much) is good as it allows a being to become well acquainted with a product, but it does not have him/her become too attached to it.

Good job, Ubisoft Montreal. This a good way of doing business with consumers, particularly those in favor of buying this game.

What? Does this mean that we will be seeing content that will be much like an episode (a la Half-Life Episodes 1, 2, or 3) or that we will see something that is more of an expansion pack? I must say that this is a clever idea, for such DLC might allow this game to be kept alive on the storeshelves, knowing that some people may really like the new content that is being offered.

I'll pay for DLC as long as the devs put some effort into it and this team says that's what they intend to do. I'd pay up to fifteen bucks for another 3 or 4 hours(hopefully more). I think this dev team really loves the world they've created. This may be the way they've always invisioned it but weren't able to achieve with last-gen tech. I'm pretty damn stoked for this game.

Right. Let's see how quickly Microsoft throws their money in, to make this content exclusive to 360.

the current game idea of an open world and the prince immortality adds much to the game experience. so, a sequel will be fine, but a prequel? mmm, i don't think so.
this game is all about the rise of an evil god in a place the prince knows nothing about it. the prince didn't mean to come here and had no idea what this place was.
the prequel means different story, different setting, and no elika around... et voila, the prince is mortal again.

a prequel sounds more interesting...... i mean, they just can't release a sequel that fast!! would be ridiculously short and repetitive.....
