LucasArts, Free Radical going next-gen

Star Wars publisher signs second major external development deal this month; platforms and titles remain unknown.

Earlier this month, LucasArts announced that it had signed a development deal with Day 1 Studios, maker of the MechAssault games for the Xbox. That deal, which is for an as-yet-unnamed game for still-unspecified platforms, was the latest in a series of agreements between LucasArts and external studios.

As it turns out, it also wasn't the last. Today, LucasArts unveiled another next-generation development deal with another independent studio. This time around, the lucky shop was Free Radical Design, the studio behind the acclaimed TimeSplitters series and 2004's Second Sight.

Like with its Day 1 collaboration, LucasArts didn't divulge the Free Radical game's title, platform, or release date. However, the mystery title will be the British studio's second next-generation project. At the Electronic Entertainment Expo in May, Free Radical revealed that it was developing Haze, a first-person shooter for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, which is due next year. Ironically, Haze's publisher is Ubisoft, which announced last week that it is itself partnering with LucasArts to publish two portable games set in the Star Wars universe.

    And if FRD do the game with Ubi, then even better ... WOW

    I guess thats what that special project was on the pandemic studios webpage. Since there with LucasArts and all. I think there were 3 projects that werent anounced yet. I hope theres another star wars battlefront. That or a mercenaries for psp.

    The best guess I have is it's a Star Wars Battlefront title.

    The deal with Day 1 is more harder to pinpoint, it could very well be a new franchise.

    Haze looks to be prety good though.

    Here's another fan wanting the possibility of a KOTOR 3, and yeah a third installment of Jedi Knight wouldn't hurt either.

    Your damn right LadyLeviticus, we want KOTOR3. And BIOWARE should make it. After Mass Effect, cause you know that game looks freaken awesome.

    free redical is awsome, i hope they make a FPS for the Wii, that would be sooooooooooooo great, and yeah LucasArts, where is star wars lightsaber for the Wii?

    If anyone can make a good game, Free Radical can. Those guys have all the creativity in the world so I would trust them with anything. I await more news equally.
