Dig Dug digs into XBLA

Namco's coin-op classic burrows onto Xbox Live Marketplace at 1 a.m. tonight for 400 points ($5).

The onslaught of arcade games on Xbox Live Arcade continues tonight, as Namco's cabinet classic Dig Dug debuts on the online service as part of Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays.

Beginning at 1 a.m. on October 11, gamers can download the game for 400 Marketplace points ($5). The new game comes with the requisite "enhanced graphics," HD support in 720p and 480p, a dozen achievements to earn, and online leaderboards.

Dig Dug sees gamers digging into the earth to eliminate enemies, armed only with a pump. The objective of the game is to clear each board of enemies by shooting them with a harpoon and inflating them until they explode. Dig Dug can also cause rocks to fall and crush multiple bad guys for bonus points.

OMG - SOME PEOPLE ON THIS HAVE ACTUALLY COMPLAINED ABOUT THE $5 PRICE TAG!!!! How cheap can you be!!!!! What should they be charging? $1? I mean c'mon, its not a complicated game but to enhance the graphics, create online leader boards, configure it for the 360 and launch it for download, it costs something and they have to charge at least $5 to make a profit. If they charged like $1 they would not make a profit after all the above expenses!

Furthermore, its a supply-demand capitalist system that we are living in so you can't say $5 is unfair if they make a good profit off it it. You can't say that its not worth $5 - if people buy it for that price, then that is what it is worth. If people were willing to spend $100 on it, that that would be how much is it worth!

longstick-damn. my hard drive keeps shrinking and shrinking
You can always play it then erase it off the hard drive. Your achievements will stay and you can always download the game again in the future, free of charge. Once you purchase an item on XBL you can go back and download it again, using the same Gamertag.

wow, are people that dumb? 5 dollars for dig dug? as great a game as it is, it is simply not worth 5 bucks. though it is nice to see actual arcade games, too bad the point system is totally worthless. glad i dont waste my money on this xbox live crap, sorry for all the suckers.. i mean kids... i mean people who do though.

I love Dig Dug, and I'm going to download this tonight, but are we ever going to actually get release dates for arcade games or are we doomed to these surprise releases/announcements?
