BioShock 2 surfacing February 9

Sequel to 2K's critically acclaimed first-person shooter gets firm release date across all territories on Xbox 360, PS3, PC.

Back in May, those eager to get back to Rapture after the events of BioShock thought they would not have long to wait, when 2K Games announced the game was to ship worldwide from the end of October. Alas, this was not to be, and BioShock 2, which was first officially confirmed in March 2008, was later moved to a "fiscal 2010" window, with Take-Two saying the game should be out between February and July.

It turns out that BioShock 2 will be released sooner rather than later, as 2K Games announced today that the dystopian shooter will be available worldwide on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on February 9. BioShock 2 is being developed by a host of different houses, with 2K Marin taking the reins on the single-player campaign and Digital Extremes crafting the multiplayer component. Support is also being provided by 2K Australia, 2K China, and Arkane Studios.

The single-player campaign is set 10 years after the events of BioShock, when, "along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture." The multiplayer component is set before the first game, allowing gamers a glimpse of life in Rapture as things started to go wrong in the undersea utopia, providing "a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock fiction."

Bioshock 2 has yet to be rated, though its predecessor received an M-for-Mature rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board. For more on the game, check out the video below or one of the recent previews.

Anyone who wuld diss this is a moron. The multiplayer will be fine. Bioshock was a hit without it so the second will be better.

l4d2 , brutal legend, borderlands, and mw2 are the only excellent titles this year. bioshock 2 should be called bioshock 1.2 ,, 1 extra point for story line and one extra point for multiplayer wich will fail

I agree with Trogeton. There has been a big dry spell with no real hits, and now all of a sudden we have: Halo ODST, Assassins Creed II, Bioshock II, Mafia II and Batman AA was a surprisingly filler whilst waiting for ODST

multiplayer component is set before the first game ? now that's special. we get the chance to see rapture before things started to go wrong. I loved the first one and can't wait for the second... So exited.

Great. I get both Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2 right after my birthday. I then have a month to beat both before ffXIII comes out.

I thought the bio thingys in the first one were a good idea but, I felt they were under powered a bit. I liked the way you could set someone on fire and watch as they run to water, then as they put the fire out, hit them with some electricity. But then you still had to shoot then half a dozen times after to kill them.

the first bioshock was good because the story was the star and because there was a challenge to overcome. Starting with the weak Jack character, as the game progressed and jack got stronger, the difficulty level always seemed on par with the steps the character made forward. However, starting out as Big daddy kind of seems unfair. I just hope this isn't going to end up one of those over powered protagonist games that is mind dumbingly easy, or makes each enemy, even the half clothed, skinny, retarded ones into tanks.

I'm looking forward to the underwater exploration... After 10 or so hours of gameplay I kinda got tired of the last game's claustrophobic environment.

I just hope it is deep and fresh like the original BioShock. Not a convoluted mess like some sequels that are made without the original director onboard.
