BioShock surfaces on PS3

Following prolonged speculation, magazine cover confirms 2K's critically acclaimed undersea adventure is heading for Sony's console.

The writing has been on the wall for some time that Take-Two would be releasing its award-winning BioShock on Sony's PlayStation 3. Speculation that 2K Boston/Australia's praised dystopian shooter based on the literary stylings of Ayn Rand would land on both current-generation consoles was sparked by the game's initial announcement for "PCs and next-generation consoles." However, tangible evidence didn't come until the game's launch in August, when a reference to BioShock on the PS3 turned up in a demo for the PC game.

The possibility of BioShock zapping PS3s was further fueled in April, when BioShock 2 developer 2K Marin indicated that it was hiring level designers that had experience developing for Sony's flagship console. Today, confirmation of the game's PS3 debut has finally arrived by way of the cover of the July issue of UK-based gaming magazine PSM3. (The news on the cover was spotted by Computer & Video Games.)

Although details on the PS3 edition of BioShock have yet to surface, the cover of the PlayStation-centric magazine states, "Proof why Xbox's best shooter is better on PS3," indicating that some content additions will be made. Thus far, the only updates to the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game were new gene-therapy-induced plasmid powers and stat-enhancing tonics, which arrived in December.

In March, embattled Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick officially confirmed that BioShock 2 was in development at the publisher's newly formed 2K Marin studio. No platforms for the sequel to last year's hit have been announced, but Take-Two expects the game to arrive during the fourth quarter of its 2009 fiscal year, which runs from August 1 to October 31, 2009.

    SalarianChemist:
"95% of multi-platform games are either "Noticably" or "Significantly" better on the Xbox 360.

Bioshock will not be an exception.

Playstation 3 simply doesn't have the polygon power that the Xbox 360 does. The GPU and CPU structure of the Xbox 360 outputs more polygons and better shading technololgy.

For three years in a row (2006-200, the Xbox 360 has easily beaten the Playstation 3 in the Gamespot Graphics Comparisons. Games like Rainbows Six Vegas 2, Orange Box, and many others show that the Xbox 360 is far superior to the Playstation 3.

We also need to remember that the developers originally said that they were no longer working on the Playstation 3 version alongside the Xbox 360 and PC version is because they were not willing to comprise the quality of the Xbox 360 and PC versions.

It's very common for a delayed release to include things like extra weapons or extra characters. This happened when Lost Planet was released for the Playstation 3--a year after the Xbox 360 version was released. But the Xbox 360 version still had bettter graphics. Plus, the extra stuff in the PS3 version could be downloaded for free, and is now available as an Xbox 360 Platinum Hit for only $29.99 where even more special upgrades, extra characters, ect, are included in the Xbox 360 version.

Bioshock will be the same thing. Anything "new" will be available for the Xbox 360 version in download. But in terms of graphics the Xbox 360 version will still be better. The Xbox 360 and PC versions had nearly identical graphics. Saying that the PS3 would have better graphics than a PC version of a game is not realistic; that much is for sure. So, it goes without saying that the Xbox 360 version will still be graphically superior, regardless of what PS3 editors will say in order to try and keep some subscribers."

Well, you're right about the 360 having better shaders and pixel pipelines, I won't argue that. But you're dead wrong if you're saying that the PS3 can't look better than the 360. Most of the games that you mentioned did look better on the 360, I wonder why...
Maybe because they were created for the 360 first and then ported to the PS3 instead of the other way around. Like you said, most developers will develop their games with the 360 first because it's easier for that particular system. When they port to the PS3, it does become a mess, with having to convert that data. Most often, the conversion process from the 360 to PS3 is piss poor, either because the people doing it don't understand the components and OS of the PS3 relative to the 360, or they're under a time/economic restriction. But the difference in graphics is noticeably small most of the time. Look at DMC 4, PS3 version is slightly better, particularly the developers knew most of the ground layout of the PS3 before they started working on a viable 360 version. Get my point? If that's not clear enough here it is in lamen's term: 360 to PS3 port = piss poor, PS3 developer works with 360 version = equal quality, PS3 exclusive = Metal Gear Solid 4 EXCLUSIVE.... I swear, this fanboyism is BS. The Bioshock version will look cleaner if the developer says so. Bottomline, they can make it so if they're willing to put the time and money into converting everything into a suitable format for whatever OS they're operating on. Chances are, BioShock will look better on the PS3, because with all ports, given with time, they can make games look sharper and cleaner, not necessarily looking better in terms of graphics. Bottom line: PS3 is a better built system, hence the higher price, 360 is a nice system that PLAYS great games, but is built rather poorly. The 1-2 Billion dollar loss and the hundreds of thousands of defects can attest to that.

There's far too much multiplatforming going on. Hell just bring out one console with all the combined genius of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft and bring all games out on that, That way, everyones happy, which would mean an end to this tedious console rivalry.

good for ps3 although i probably won't be buying it due to the number of other great titles coming out this year. this game will be easliy overlooked behind MGS4 Little Big Planet Resistance 2 and FFXIII. I don't think even the 360 can touch that....in fact i KNOW it can't

gandalf9303 - all games give a damn about Japan. Most of the good stuff (technology and games) come out from there or have originated there!

"On the subject of MGS4, the game will almost certainly be coming to the 360 in the future. As any other PS3 exclusive, MGS4 will have poor to mediocre sales. The game would sell very well on the 360 and as was once stated before by Kojima, hardware isn't an issue, "Metal Gear Solid 4 is technically possible on Xbox 360." Just like Bioshock is coming to the PS3, it's ludicrous to think MGS4 won't come to the 360, especially with the PS3's dismal sales."

Stupid, stupid statement. PS3 has been catching up, and more and more people are buying it, now, especially as there are things to look forward to on the system, i contrast to how microsoft released all of it's hyped exlusive games only a year or so after the console was released. Also, look at the sales for the PS3 compared to the 360 in Japan. In japan, 360 is nothing but a peice of junk.

MGS4 will never be on 360, never, ever. It already has been stated from the beginning to be PS3 exclusive, and Sony has obtained exclusive rights to the game. Plus... while the games ENGINE (Which is the technical part about it) may work on the 360, the game would never be able to. Kojima has admitted that the game uses up the 50 gigs on a blue ray disk, with compression. The 360 uses standard DVDs... which can only contain 4 gigs, and when using dual layer, 7gigs.

MGS4 on 360, will never happen.

Sure its an "Old game?" for Xbots but people who own a PS3 and havnt got a Xbox and havnt played this game its new to them?! Even if it has got extra content or not I heard this game was brilliant, Im sure people who havnt played this will buy it, If it did so well on the Xbox, Why would it not do as well on the PS3?

"Theres no way for Xbots to twist this, plain and simple you guys lost a major exclusive AND its going to be better on PS3. Score one for Sony"

Score 1 for Sony, really? Well, let's see here, that brings the score to:

    Microsoft: 9,282,737,383 -- Sony: 1

twistedhades: "hell yeah bioshock thats a great addition to the ps3 - sonner or later we might have mass effect to add up n in 6/12 the mighty mgs4 comes out"

Mass Effect is published by Microsoft Game Studios. Microsoft Game Studios does not publish games for the PS3. Microsoft also already has exclusive rights for the entire Mass Effect trilogy.

On the subject of MGS4, the game will almost certainly be coming to the 360 in the future. As any other PS3 exclusive, MGS4 will have poor to mediocre sales. I heard that the PS3 version will have better graphica than the 360 and PC versions because 2K MArin is going to put on the PS3 version major graphical improvements.

Good for PS3 owners... I bought a 360 FOR Bioshock almost an year ago, so if it was a PS3-exclusive back then, I'd probably would go for Sony console. But then again, I'd regret missing a lot of great stuff the 360 has to offer. By now, the only thing that would make me buy a PS3 would be the long waited and probably never to come out FFVII remake. But let's see in a few weeks if MGS4 has the power to change my mind.

With bioshock ps3 still isn't close to the level of games that 360 has now. There's oh so much more.
