Gearbox enlisted for Alien FPS

Brothers in Arms developer handling Sega's Alien-based first-person shooter; details on game still under wraps.

On Monday, Sega announced that it had acquired the rights to develop multiple games based on the Alien films, including a first-person shooter and a role-playing game. On Wednesday, the publisher revealed that Obsidian Entertainment, makers of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, was developing the RPG based on the sci-fi license.

In keeping with Sega's Alien news every other day, the company today announced that Gearbox Software will be handling the development of a first-person shooter for next-generation systems set in the films' sci-fi universe. The news confirms Sega's goof from earlier this week, when the publisher accidentally listed Gearbox's name on its Alien teaser site.

Gearbox is best known for its work on the Brothers in Arms series, the next edition of which is due in stores sometime in 2007.

Sega did not release any details on the game, but in a previous announcement it targeted 2009 as the release date of its first Alien-based title.

    so its based on the movie..i hope its good becase the last avp was k it wasnt that great

    i remeber when i tried to get this like years ago and it got canceled on the ps2...=[......now i cant wait til this game comes out it sounds great...

    I agree with tony, although this is good news, more avp would be better

    I've been waiting a long time for news of a new aliens game and i couldn't be more happier, lets hope it's a good one

    At last, Aliens is coming to the next-gen.
    I wonder if there is any hope of resurrecting Aliens; Colonial Marines, the game that was cancelled by EA ages ago?

    Well, it looks like they will take their time on it. Which is good. At the very least, gameplay should be good. But why did they have to say something about the game NOW? Not a year before the game was released? Oh well. Just as long as it's a blast to play and follows the movies enough to keep people happy.

    Dude this will rock I just wish Sega was as far from this as possible...Gearbox will be fine but Sega is just a terrible company IMO (yeah they have some hits)

    Well, guess we have to wait and see... They could be very good games. Ive seen all Alien movies, and even all Predator, and I really didnt like a few things about the AvP movie, so, hopefully they will just keep at the basic...

    2009 is quite a far out, so, we really have to wait and see what comes of these titles.

    Alien without Predator is like The Simpson's without Homer. It will be horrible. I mean, predators main prey (besides humans), in a game of its own? Aliens were even in Predators own game Predator: Concrete Jungle. But I still think this FPS and RPG on Alien will kick ass! Seeing as Aliens also kick ass but Predator will always be my favorite. I am waiting for Alien 5 and Alien vs Predator 2 and Predator 3 or instead of Predator 3, a remake of Predator 1 (movies). But why a remake of number 1? That's stupid, Predator 1 was great. Sorry if I went off topic.

    It'd be interesting to see an Aliens game on a next gen system (crosses fingers for 360). But if they start taking "creative license" in the wrong direction, it can ruin the whole experience. IMO, if they want to do it right, they'll start you off as one of the last remaining colonists on LV-426. And no, not newt. Perhaps he/she dies before the marines get there, perhaps not. I've always wondered what went on before help arrived.
