Dirk leads European NBA Live covers

Germany gets Mavs' Nowitzki, Spain gets Grizzlies' Gasol, France gets Suns' Diaw and Spurs' Parker; McGrady handles the rest.

One only needs to look at the back of NBA jerseys to see that professional basketball is quickly becoming an international affair. Williamses, Johnsons, and Jacksons are steadily being replaced by Mings, Kirilienkos, and N'Dongs. To reflect the global expansion of the NBA, Electronic Arts is offering the next edition of NBA Live in multiple covers, much like it does with its FIFA Soccer series.

Dallas Mavericks All-Star Dirk Nowitzki will be on the game's cover in his homeland of Germany, Memphis Grizzlies forward Pau Gasol will be featured on the cover in Spain, and San Antonio Spurs speedster Tony Parker and Phoenix Suns jack-of-all-trades Boris Diaw will be co-cover athletes in France. In other territories, previously announced cover athlete and Houston Rockets superstar Tracy McGrady will be the featured athlete.

"With the global appeal of NBA Live it is important to us to assemble an All-Star team of international players who reflect our worldwide basketball franchise leadership," said Keith Munro, vice president of marketing for EA. "These players are superstars on their NBA teams and some of the best players in the world."

NBA Live 07 will also feature a European All-Stars team. The roster will include the four European cover athletes, as well as Zydrunas Ilgauskus of the Cavaliers, Peja Stojakovic of the Hornets, Andrei Kirilenko and Mehmet Okur of the Jazz, Hedo Turkoglu of the Magic, Vladimir Radmanovic and Sasha Vujacic of the Lakers, Andrea Bargnani of the Raptors, Mickael Pietrus of the Warriors, Beno Udrih of the Spurs, and Nenad Krstic of the Nets.

NBA Live 07 is being released on September 25 for the Xbox 360, Xbox, PlayStation 2, PSP, and PC. A PlayStation 3 version is also expected to be available in November. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

baltimoreravens - 40 and 10 is a big exaggeration. T-Mac is streaky but even if he's cold, he still is very valuable - solid defence, gets teammates involved on offence whereas dirk is almost useless if his shots aren't falling.

if you're going to say that dirk is the best player in the nba, then I'm a say that Ben Wallace is the best. They both are good at a couple of things - Ben at defense and rebounding, dirk at shooting and ball handling. So what I'm trying to say is that there's no way either one of them is the best player in the nba.

oh, I forgot, dirk is great at whining and flopping too but still...

the person who just compared Dirk with Tmac is a complete noob to basketball. they are both great players. Tmac is good, but he is a streaky player, once he gets going, you cant stop him. But the bad thing about Tmac is that he can be very inconsistent, he can score 40 in one game, and score like 10 in another. Dirk is just a good shooter period. Hes got a better shot than Tmac. Tmac is a flashy player, but Dirk is a player that a coach would love to have on hes team cuz he means so much to the team, tho he is not flashy, he does hes job very well.

But with everything said, thats just a bad comparison.

Lets get something straight T-mac will rape Dirk anyday. And I can bet that if the rockets play the Mavs, the rockets will own. There a reason they picked Tmac because he would own dirk.

TRACY DIDN'T PLAY LAST YEAR. Give the cover to someone who deserves it like lebron. He might want too much money though.

i don't really care too much about the story... but i wanted to commend gamespot and their editors for the most sexy picture of mr. nowitzki that they used to represent this story.

    it made my universe today.

He is one of the great NBA players right now. So it's good pick to be a cover athlete for EA games.

I have to agree with peeps saying Dirk should be on the North American cover too. He may not be as cool as D.Wade or Kobe, but he's ten times better than T-Mac, who can't play more than 75% of a full season. T-Mac would've been great for the cover...4 years ago. There's at least ten more deserving players that could've been the cover star, starting with Steve Nash and Lebron James.

The only cover T-Mac needs to be on is the cover of Overrated Monthly. What did he do all season. Zip. Nada. Nothing. I guess next year they'll put Grant Hill on the cover.

Dirk is definitely not the best.

Dirk is the best player in the NBA? Did you even look at the Finals?!?! He freakin disappeared! He passed up wide open shots and failed to be aggressive unlike Wade. I guess if you think so then who am I to contradict you. If he is the best player in the NBA then Wade is the best player in the world...

Dirk is the best player in the NBA. My Mavs are looking good ever since our finals dissapointment. Dirk should have been on the North American cover instead of T-Mac, Mcgrady didn't do anything this year.... Well NBA Live sucks anyway, 2K is better.
