King of Fighters '94 Re-Bout KO'd

SNK Playmore confirms that NeoGeo fighter previously slated for release this month is down for the count.

SNK Playmore touted upcoming products like The Metal Slug Collection in its Game Developers Conference meeting with GameSpot today, but one title that wasn't in the mix was King of Fighters '94 Re-Bout, previously scheduled for an Xbox release later this month. Reps for the publisher confirmed that the game had been canceled, but did not give a reason for the move.

Re-Bout was originally announced in 2004 as a PlayStation 2 remake of the original King of Fighters game, the '94 edition. In April of 2005, SNK Playmore confirmed it was working on an Xbox port of the game, and the PS2 version was all but confirmed dead the next month at E3 2005, where the publisher's '94 Re-Bout sell sheets made no mention of the game being made for Sony's system.

The 2D fighter are ok to play for about 30 minutes. Every week or so. But not on a home consoles. Playing on the go that ok.

The first 2d fighter game i played was SF2... It was in an Arcade and i was 11 years old... Now, with 25, i cant get enough of 2D... SF2,2',2Turbo,SSF2, King94,95,96,97 (my fav),98,99,00,01,02,03,CVS1,2 Art of fighting, Fatal Fury....and so on and so on! I love them all...and have them all! Some, like kof, are really fast and easy to control. Something that on 3d Fighting cant be done. Dont get me wrong i am a fan(actic) of fighting games... And i think that 2d will always be better, and funnier to play... So i really hope to see kof94 on the ps2...

2d fighters had there day. they flooded the market back in the day. i think they dont have much to improve on anymore. that being said shouldnt it be really easy to release this game with little to no work invovled.

This really stinks. KOF is always so much fun to play. I really was looking forward to this as KOF94 never got a console port in the US. I played the import and despite what others here have said the game plays great and is a lot of fun. they even have the original KOF94 on there as well as the remake.

This is a sad day indeed for fighting game fans.

They just shoulda added this to xbox live. I mean that would be the only thing saving this game. Is the online play. It just makes sense.

SF: Anniversary Collection + Arcade Stick... that's all I need on a desesrted island. Well plus the xbox console, a tv, plugs, and infinite electricity. Oh yeah and shelter and food would be nice. clothing would be optional.

I'm not even going to read every post -- all I know is that KOF 94 deserves to be remade, if not for the fact that it started a revolution in 2D fighters.

...all we can do is pray that they'll go back and go through with it sometime.

doesnt matter if they cancel kof 94. nevertheless i have to admit that kof 94 is the pioneer of all these group battles as can be seen in capcom vs snk 2, as well as the series starter for the subsequent kof titles. kof 98 and kof 2001 are the best !

CvS2 is good, but the nuances are different than the original games, and it gets boring at higher levels. Plus, in my opinion, the left out some of the more interesting characters - too many Shoto-style fighters.

It's got a learning curve to it, but Street Fighter III: Third Strike is a much, much better game, and doesn't fall apart advanced play (roll canceling, anyone?).. That being said, play whatever you have the most fun with - if you and your friends don't roll cancel (which they took out of the Xbox version anyhow), no need to worry about it.

Why needs KOF94 when you can combine both Capcom and SNK chacters and their respective fighting systems into one ultimate Capcom VS SNK 2?

I can even use KOF characters on Street Fighter 3 fighting system on Capcom VS SNK 2!

    Capcon VS SNK 2 rules!

5 KOF in one years time is a bit much. I can see why they dropped it. I would like to see it on Live marketplace, but will see. I just wish 2d fighters worked on 360. Neowave here I come.

Virtua Fighter? Broken? Careful with words like that! lol

And ditto on 3rd Strike - its popularity has only grown as its gotten older, especially in the tournament scene.

I'm not surprised KOF Re-Bout is being canned. It was a good game for the time, but I can't see paying $20-40 for it. I think it'd be better as an extra bonus for a future game.

I'd like to see SNK start offering their games for sale via Live, Revolution and whatever Sony has planned. If they do it through emulation, then they only need make an emulator for each system, then sell the ROMs.

Oh well, this is just too bad, there are plenty of fighter games to keep everyone busy, and if thats not enough, then read a good book
