Jeeps go Airborne

Electronic Arts and DaimlerChrysler sign deal to feature popular vehicles in Medal of Honor Airborne.

When re-creating a historical period for a game, authenticity can separate the good games from the poseurs. Electronic Arts today announced it is bringing more realism to its Medal of Honor series by signing a deal with Jeep. Several of the Jeep vehicles that were used in World War II will be featured in the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and Xbox games, scheduled for release in 2007. The Willys-Overland Jeep "will appear for extended, action-packed sequences in several missions." Gamers will be able to use the Jeeps for simple transportation, or they can take control of a mounted weapon and blast away enemies while on the move.

I really like this idea. I've actually never been opposed to in game advertising if it's done right. Like if a game that has a setting inside an office building wanted to use a real Coke machine instead of a non-discript
soda machine, that would be cool with me. Actually, IMO it might add some realism.

The other good thing about in game advertising that's done properly is that with the rising cost of development, in game advertising hopefully will mean those costs aren't passed on to the consumer. If more games found a way to do in game advertising that wasn't redicously out of place so much it made gamers mad, perhaps we could get back down closer to the $50 price point for games again.
