I only rented this game once, but let me say, I had to pay some extensive late fees.
This game is just like your everyday, run-of-the-mill FPS, with one exception: Instincts. The ability to use instincts in this game will give you a huge advantage against the impressive AI. The ability to use your senses to see what is going on and enhance your physical abilities adds a certain feeling of, wow this is really cool! The way each instinct is animated and executed, it makes you feel as if you are actually jumping and running as fast as it looks on the screen! A good example is *slight spoilers* the primal sprint. With this ability, you run on all fours, can cover ground at an alarming rate and allowing you to jump greater distances. What draws you in (it drew me in at least) is that the camera gets real low to the ground and the main character starts to breathe real heavily. These details allow you to be immersed in the gameplay. The real plus to this game is it's multiplayer.
In the multiplayer, you can play an array of modes. These vary from your regular death match to your not so regular hunt mode. In this mode, it's a few mutated against the many normal. Also, in the map editor, you can create vast landscapes that meet your fancy. They can be loong bloody beaches or mysterious marshes. These maps are so customizable that you can decide what kind of vegetation you want. You can also share your masterpieces online with friends.
These are only a few of the features in the game, and believe me, there is many more things in this game then what I outlined above. In my honest opinion, I think FarCry is a needed fresh breath into the FPS genre, and I recommend you buy it.
