Breed bumped back
Brat Design's sci-fi shooter is now scheduled to blast off for PC in February 2004. Xbox date remains unset.
Continuing what has become a tradition, the sci-fi shooter Breed has been delayed again. A statement in German on the official Breed Web site said hardware-compatibility problems were discovered shortly before the game was going to go gold, forcing a delay until next year. The statement was refreshingly honest, saying, "fans and those who worked to release the title are a little disappointed."
Those following the Breed saga will remember that publisher CDV originally scheduled the game for a release in 2002--back when GameSpot first saw it at E3. It was then pushed back to August and then again to November 2003. The Xbox version of the game was also due this year, but is now currently in limbo at UK studio Brat Designs, where the PC version is also being developed.
The news will come as a letdown to those familiar with Breed. A sci-fi shooter in vein of Halo, the game chronicles what happens when the flagship of the United Space Corps returns to Earth and finds it overrun by an alien race known as the Breed. Over the course of 20 missions, gamers must free humanity from enslavement by the Breed using an array of futuristic vehicles and weaponry.
If the current release date holds, Breed should be blasting off on February 14, 2004.
