Besides showing off its latest crop of current-generation games, Capcom used its press conference today to unveil its first next-generation game. As outlined in GameSpot's first impressions, the company played a trailer of Dead Rising for the Xbox 360. As the name implies, Dead Rising is a horror action shooter from the mind of someone who knows a thing or two about the walking dead, Onimusha creator Keiji Inafune.

According to Capcom, the game will have more than a passing resemblance to the classic zombie movie Dawn of the Dead. "Dead Rising follows the harrowing tale of an overzealous freelance photojournalist as he struggles to survive an endless stream of zombies," said the company. "Players will have full reign of a realistic shopping center, utilizing anything they find to fight off the flesh-hungry mob and search for the truth behind the horrendous epidemic."

The trailer for Dead Rising also showed that the game has an interesting twist, similar to Killer 7 creator Gouichi Suda's Michigan. During critical situations, the photojournalist protagonist will be forced to choose between safely blasting oncoming zombies or pausing to snap their photos to sell them for major profit.

No release date was announced for Dead Rising, but GameSpot will have more details on the game as they emerge.
