A brief summary of the game first: You play as Wolverine (duh!), and he's the best there is at what he does. But what he does isn't very nice. Game developers have made many attempt at creating a Wolverine game that can live up to the fictional character's reputation. Before this game, X-Men 2: Wolverine's Revenge was, in my opinion, the best attempt at it. But still, it lacked that little something. And Raven Software found what that little something was.

Now let's talk about the gameplay. Wolverine is a mean bastard, and he doesn't hesitate to maim, dismember and decapitate with those adamantium claws of his. Raven understood that, and so it happened. The gameplay is what you can expect from this type of game. It's very akin to God of War (wich is awesome if you haven't played it yet), with just a little of RPG elements. You gain experience by killing those Weapon X bastards to gain levels and spend skill points to improve and gain new attacks for Wolverine. There's also this adventure element, as in there's the occasional puzzle to resolve ala Tomb Raider, but easier. Though they are all pretty easy, it adds this little something to the game. Some may find the combat repetitive and it's true that you can defeat most enemies by using the same combo over and over again - but why would you when you have so many different attacks that you can use ?

Next, the length. Again, what you can expect from this type of game (Not a movie game, but an over-the-top action game). Wich is 10 to 20 hours. Pretty good if you ask, especially considering that if you're like me, you'll want to play it again and again (Also to unlock the special mode after beating it on Hard!).

The story is meh. They took the movie's and made some modifications of their own - it's nothing especially good, but nothing bad either.

Visuals, visuals, visuals. The blood effects, Wolverine's model and the general textures are pretty well done. Something you can expect from Unreal Engine 3. The only thing that irks me is the non-playable characters' models. It seems as if they didn't put as nearly as much time modeling them than with Wolverine's. Again, they're not that bad, but it's a bit deceiving to look at them.

And finally ... what we all want to know about, the real-time Healing Factor. It's incredible and never gets tiring of being torn apart and just watch wolverine heal in front of your eyes. You can get wounded down to the bones (even see through Wolverine), and then you'll slowly heal back up to the skin, going by the muscles, and the wound will cause a scar before finally vanishing. (And for you girls out there, you get to see Hugh shirtless).

In a nutshell, I had a fear that this would turn out to be a lame movie game, but I was proven wrong. It's a pretty damn good action/beat 'em up game and an excellent Wolverine game. A must buy for any fans of the genre or fans of Wolverine. It's not perfect and there's the occasional bug, but it's a great game.
