Premise has potential and that's about all

The only good thing about this game is the premise. The idea of being able to start as a Mutant from scratch and then being able to choose whether you will become and X-man or a member of the Brotherhood as you develop your abilities is one that attracted me from the start and I couldn't wait to play this game.

However a good premise does not make a great or even good game make. Graphically, aside from a few techincal aspects, the game is all right but isn't spectacular. The only caveat to that is the fact that I found reading the yellow subtitles difficult to read and so I turned them off completely. The sound is all right but, again, nothing spectacular.

Combat..............eh, simple button mashing will do the trick most of the time. It takes a while, like most of the story mode, to achieve the three special mutant powers that you will eventually have to use. And these seem rather limited; seriously each character in X-men Legends II, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance II had more attack choices.

As for story, it's short. I've only played the game for 7-8 hours over three days I beat it. I haven't yet gone back to play through it again to see if the choices I make, greatly affect the story but my hopes aren't high. With regards to the whole X-gene thing, not sure about it yet.

My biggest problem with the game is that they started with a great premise and dropped the ball in carrying it out. The premise lends itself to what could have been a great action game with RPG elements in which you chose the progression of your character's powers; even if you were limited to one of only a handful of base power types. There could have been a story in which your choices allowed you to affect events and which of several endings you saw. While choice affecting story is not mandatory for an action game, this game emphasizes how important it is.

I personally see a lot of potential in this game and because of that I feel more than a little ripped off. I almost want to go back and ask for half my money back because I feel like I got half a game.
