This game opens with severe loading times, purposely installed to add suspense? I do'nt think so! The spooky music is atmospheric and very effective especially in a low lit room.
All you have to do is choose your difficulty level, begginer is reccomended as this is a difficult game without experience. Then the location of your base, any land mass or island will do, now build your base up, equip your troops, equip your battleships and away you go, there are also research and manufacturing options at your base so you can research the alien artifacts you recover from battles, this game has alot of depth, every little tweak and option has an effect on your progress and you never really bore of this as the research option always gives you something to look forward to as you progress, the rewards are huge, i would rather liken it to a monkey trying to crack a coconut on a rock, when he gains access to the fruit inside hes a happy, proud monkey, thats like the research option, crack the coconut, gain the rewards.
The battle system is turn based and has the player in suspense as every turn you make could result in you having your troops annhialated, the troops have a certain amount of time units and every action costs points, when all your troops have little or no time units left then click the icon to give the aliens thier turn, when an alien comes into sight all troops in the fecinity can shoot at it or launch a primed grenade, its like a very enjoyable game of chess with aliens and guns and spaceships etc, when you kill all of the aliens the mission will finish and a screen will appear, possibly you may have some promotions for your troops, maybe a commander, sgt, etc, then you have the alien artifacts recovered screen where you can take alien alloys or even a live alien back to your base for research and potential manufacture.
This game is one of the best games I have ever played and I have played alot of games, the graphics are dated now but graphics have no bearing on the magnificently intricate and perfectly balanced gameplay, I really ca'nt pick out any faults apart from the loading times, but if you have a pc get the pc version, this game is legendary and a milestone in strategy gaming.
THIS IS A HARD GAME BUT THE REWARDS ARE HUGE...........
