In the game world current situation first person shooters rules the market and it seems that strategy games are losing blood every day.
But in the strategy game world history this game was one of the best.
Production-Research chain philosophy was working very well. Fight against the ufo -> Get the artifacts from Ufo -> Research them (reverse engineering) -> Produce in your workshop -> Use new weapons/systems. I believe in a strategy game, having this ability is a critical issue.
X-com apocalypse was also pretty good cause of the loose economic model of the game world. Sometimes to find some money you should fight not only against the ufo's but also the syndicate or illegal organizations (like raiders).
I hope someone, someday would make new version of this games. And in these new versions there could be a competition, trade or cooperation between more X-com organizations.

Even giving this game the excuse of being very old, the number of bugs and effort required to play bring it down.

This is the intro video that plays at the beginning of my very favorite game of all time, X-COM: UFO Defence. It's an amazing classic of a game, and I love the comic-book art style of this clip.Posted Jul 18, 2006
