A fantastic improvement on the original Warfare, with more weapons, but shorter lifespan.

User Rating: 8 | Worms: Open Warfare 2 PSP
Worms Open Warfare 2 offers, essentially, an entire row of weapons more than its predecessor, Open Warfare. Included in these new weapons is the Holy Hand Grenade, the Super Sheep, various super weapons, including the concrete donkey, and a couple of new weapons, including the sentry gun, bunker buster and others.

The new online (infrastructure) multiplayer is fantastic. Available is the possibility of downloads, 3 modes of online play (deathmatch, fort and rope race), rankings, statistics, clans and more.

The single player introduces puzzles and a campaign mode. Both of these are extremly short lived. It will feel like you have only started playing the game before it is completed. The puzzles are also imbalanced, suddenly jumping from the extreme basics to those that require 9, 10 tries to complete. The campaign becomes frustrating as the A.I also becomes intelligent, suddenly, making the final 10 levels annoyingly slow to complete, in comparison to the first twenty.

Also, there is a time trial mode, where you can race in new levels.

The shop, from which you can purchase new looks for your worms, levels etc. is a great idea, but also short lived. Money to spend at the shop is earned through completing puzzles and the campaign. Soon, you will have basically out-bought the entire shop without having to save, or barely having to save.

Also still in existance is the frustratingly smart A.I (in the later levels). After a speech bubble with the Pi symbol appears above their head, the bazooka, grenade etc. they then throw manages to perfectly place itself, with skill only an extreme hardcore professional wormer could possibly have. In my opinion, this is a flaw; it does make the A.I challenging, but unrealisticly so.

In all, Worms Open Warfare 2 is a great game to have when going away on holidays. Its ability to create custom games and a great online mode makes this a favourite for fans and also for those looking for something natty and pleasing for the majority of players. However, if you want something challenging, or something with a large lifespan, this may not be for you if you are the only one around.

A great game to have in the library of PSP titles.
