World's Scariest Police Chases Preview
Fox Interactive is bringing the most ubiquitous television phenomenon ever to video games. Can it make the transition?
Surely you've seen them. It's hard to turn on a television these days without running into an advertisement for one of those "real life" shows. One might be inclined to think that there's someone with a camcorder in every part of the world, waiting for something spectacular to happen so they can sell the tape to a network for big bucks. World's Scariest Police Chases was one of the first shows to make such real-life situational dramas popular, and now it's being translated into video game form.
World's Scariest Police Chases places you in the role of the series' protagonist, the everyman policeman, and sends you out to complete 50 missions in the game's story mode. You'll be sent out to chase down crooks, escort VIPs, conduct surveillance, and more. A series of 15 "bad boy" missions will also let you play the role of the criminals. There are two roles to fill in each vehicle: driver and shooter. A single player can control both characters, or two people can each fill one slot for cooperative gameplay. An assortment of firepower, ranging from a 9mm and an M16 assault rifle to grenades and an anti-tank weapon, will be available for combating crime.
So how does the World's Scariest Police Chases game re-create the feel of the television show? It not only features narration by series host Sheriff John Bunnell, but also a helicopter-eye view and a dashboard-mounted camera view so the action can be depicted just like on TV. Add in several multiplayer gameplay modes, such as deathmatch and a cops-and-robbers chase mode, and you get what could be a pretty enjoyable action racing game. Look for World's Scariest Police Chases to show up in stores sometime around the end of the year.
