Worlds of Magic Early Access Review

User Rating: 8 | Worlds of Magic PC

Heya,

Worlds of Magic is the spiritual successor to the classic fantasy 4x game from the 90's: Master of Magic. I was fortunate enough to get in on Worlds of Magic on the first day of alpha when it was little more than a battleboard and random units. Since then, the team at Wastelands Interactive and Lucid Dreamers has done an incredible job of bringing a true spiritual successor to Master of Magic to life.

Worlds of Magic has become the game I play most, and it’s still in early access on STEAM! The graphics are sumptuous, especially if you have a really good rig where you can turn up the FPS and resolution. It’s gorgeous. The game play is what I’ve been wanting out of game like this: brutal punishment for stupid mistakes, in-depth options on a battleboard, a robust spell system, and unique immersive fantasy factions. This game has done what the other Master of Magic descendants failed to do, IMO, and that is create a game that gives you the freedom to run a fantasy empire the way you want, learn through hard work and exploration, and finally engage your mind in tactical combat.

The best part of doing all the testing was how responsive the dev team has been. I’ve written pages and pages of suggestions and feature requests. All of them were acknowledged and most have made it in the game. I know that the community that supported this game from PayPal and Kickstarter campaigns designed most of the spells, factions, world features, heroes, titans, sorcerer-lords, and units in this game. That’s an amazing amount of trust and friendship the dev team has shown the fans.

I would recommend this game to anyone without reservation. It is a classic 4x game, that I’m positive you’ll enjoy.

Peace,

-Troy
