I have had nothing to do with poker in all my life , i had no idea what the rules were , so i have no idea what made me get this game , Maybe it was the player customisation .......it gets me everytime.
When i first put it in my xbox , what a found was that the create-a-player was there alright , and it was brilliant , it was very detailed but unlike The latest wrestling games , it was easy to play around with. the added option of trading in chips for new shirts and pants still keeps me playing.
If your like me , and want to relax and play some easy( or hard) poker one night , you found the right game , as it has Quick matches for all types of poker games , and it only took me two goes at each game , to figure out the rules , and then im playing like a pro.
I like that in quick match mdoe , when buliding up your Created Poker player , the addition of items for your player , is not bought with your winnings , but rather with different chips , that you earn by taking risks such as bluffing , getting different hands , and beating different hands.
the clothing and accesorie options are brilliant , so you can keep updating your player so he never looks the same twice.
Presentation is Key , and its in full force in World poker tour , with Tv style Camera cuts and commentary even in your amatuer poker game . commentary is nice , and for some reason it does not get old , maybe be cause its not always there .
Players animate nicely , they do look a bit cartoony in the looks , but its fine and it does not get distracting , the game managers to give you fresh oponents using the same Custom options as you use for your player , but lukily these are not completely random .
the sound other than the commentary is fine , with chips being stacked , opponents moving in there seats , making calls , and general background noise such as poker machines.
The actual game of poker is realy nicely done , its fun and addictive . AI is pretty good , the difficulty modes start you off with some easy targets but it works up to some cunning oponents.
Other modes are the World Poker Tour season , where you climb the ranks of the Tour championships , playing game to game , from local tv to grand stage events. But id rather just play a nice game of poker in quick mode , rather than having alot of pressure.
You can even change the rules of the featured poker types , and create your own game of poker. This is a pretty interesting mode as you can take the best bits out of the normal games and create your very own poker game.
Online mode is here , with Create , Quick and Option match features, finding a game shouldnt be hard, and there are players out there from all over the world , just dont expect people to be using the voice feature to often , as they dont want to give away there hands.
Overall , I took a risk and found a different game that is superb , and its givin me a new found love for poker. If your a poker die hard you may not need a video game version , but if your a casual gamer looking for some addictive fun , pick up a copy today!
