Wolfenstein is some of the most fun I've ever had with a first person shooter on the Xbox 360

Any game with Wolfenstein in its title has a pretty massive legacy to live up to, considering that 1992's Wolfenstein 3D is often credited for creating the first-person shooter as we know it today. Raven Software's 2009 game for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC is simply titled Wolfenstein, and - at least in my opinion - this game absolutely lives up to its legacy. This is an excellent modern first person shooter that blends elements of WWII shooters like Call of Duty 2 with strange sci-fi elements, and the result is an extremely fun and epic video game experience. Wolfenstein slipped under the radar in 2009, unfortunately, but this was actually one of my favorite games from that year. Now that it's much more affordable, every first person shooter fan has no excuse for not checking out this massively underrated title.

Stylistically, this game is pretty similar to your typical current-gen first person shooter, but its unique blend of elements from history and science fiction makes for a fun experience. While Wolfenstein is definitely pretty linear, it's quite challenging at times, and the boss battles are every bit as fun as they were in classic first-person shooters like Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake. I really wish newer games had boss battles as kick-ass as they were in the mid-nineties', and Wolfenstein certainly scratches that itch without feeling like a complete nostalgia trip.

The game starts out like a fairly normal World War II first person shooters, but then a plan by the Nazis in the 'Black Sun' realm is revealed and the story progresses from there. Whilst it may not the most compelling thing in the world, it's a good excuse to kill some virtual Nazis and other critters. It also is a good excuse to have a set of 3 superpowers in a thing called the 'Veil', which is essential to completing the game. With the ability to slow time, penetrate shields, and create a shield of your own, this supernatural element of Wolfenstein makes the game a lot more fun, and even occasionally more challenging.

Graphics and sound wise, this game is also top-notch, and the epic musical score especially strikes me as excellent. There are a few drops in framerate from time to time, but overall Wolfenstein is an exceptionally well made and playable video game. I'd definitely recommend this in a heartbeat to fans of first-person shooters. A truly underrated and fantastic game, Wolfenstein is some of the most fun I've had with a first person shooter for the Xbox 360 in recent memory.
