Best outing since a very long time in this series.

I have been a wipeout fan since Wipeout XL back in 1996. Through the years, I realised it is one of the best racing title ever released in gaming history. The gameplay is perfectly adapted to video gaming, in my opinion: a mix between arcade and simulation (if there is any of hovercraft racing).

Yet, Wipeout Pure, wich had the difficult task of bringing back some sparkle to the series after the disappointing Wipeout 64 and Wipeout Fusion, definitely succeded and even brought more to the franchise.

The graphics are amazing, the game is fast and the soundtrack is great techno. But most importantly, the handling of the ships is nothing short of superb. You really feel like you are actually driving an hovercraft! There is a certain sense of floatiness to the ships that was lacking since Wipeout XL and Wip3out to be found here that really add to the driving excitement in an inexplicable way. In this respect, it is better than Wipeout Pulse, which seemed to me like the ships were on tracks. The tracks design is also excellent, with each one delivering a new way of exploiting the capabilities of the crafts.

So, maybe Wipeout Pure is not surpassing Wipeout XL, but it isn't far behind and it does bring back the franchise to the top of racing games.

P.S. for fans only

XL >= Pure > Wipeout 3 >> HD > Fury > Pulse >> wipEout >> Fusion > Wipeout 64
