Could well be the best racing game for the PS3 at the moment. Unless Gran Turismo 5 can top it. #8.9/10#

User Rating: 8.5 | WipEout HD Fury PS3
Way back in 1995 the original WipEout on the PS1 had gotten a lot of people's attention worldwide who were planning on buying a Playstation just in time for the Holiday season. Like the F-Zero series on Nintendo consoles WipEout is pretty much similar a racing game through tracks and zones in a futuristic world.

There is no story to this game like most racing games your earning medals/points in order to become the best racer in the game, and unlocking new vehicles and a few surprises as well.

Gameplay: Like most racing games the controls are quite simple for anyone who or hasn't played a racing game before. If you've played the series before you should feel right at home with the latest instalment to the series, you've got the option to play Single-Races, Zones, and Time Trail. It has the same idea the MotorStorm series would have play through 8 races on each section and start going up to the highest one, in order to become the best racer. A new feature which is in the Fury pack is Detonator which is kind of like an arcade Space Invaders type game, you are going around the track shooting bombs in front of you.

You've got a choice on what vehicle/sped racer you want to choose they've still got the same race teams from FEISAR, EG-X to Goteki 45. If you drive through a red cross on the track you can fire your weapon to attack other racers or use it to get your health/energy back from being damaged, if you see a blue arrow they can give you a boost to catch up or staying in front of everyone else.

You can also use the Sixaxes to tilt the PS3 controller to steer left and right like a steering wheel, but can easily turn that off on options and just use the L2 and R2 to get around tight corners.

Graphics and Sound: Quite possibly the best feature about WipEout HD would be the stunning graphics especially for a racing game. If you are a WipEout fan you might recognize one or two tracks that are in WipEout HD borrows certain race tracks that were on the PSP. Not only most of the race tracks are stunning but if you are playing through a Zone race or Detonator the graphics are slightly different but really stunning and look a little similar to what REZ (PS2) had with those kinds of graphics and visuals.

With 1080p graphics poured on to a Downloadable/Retail game the environments and visuals are highly well done, not only that just this year you can play this game in 3D that's if you own a SONY Bravia TV.

If you don't nothing to worry about you can still enjoy it. Soundtrack does a nice feature too, but you've also got the option to listen to your own music if you have any on your PS3. There isn't any voice acting since it's just a racing game.

Another clever thing you'll notice during loading times you'll notice advertisements for Lynx which I think is quite clever and don't see much advertisements in games that much, while waiting for your game to load up.

Overall: If you planning on buying this game I would suggest buying the retail version which is cheap to get and has all the DLC stuff from the Playstation Network. If you are a trophy fanatic it'll take you a while to earn all trophies some of them can be tough, one of them you have to do 99 laps. You can also play up to 8 players online either by playing the Fury pack or HD races which ever you want to play.

But as a fan of the WipEout series it's nice to see a WipEout game for the PS3 with some stunning graphics but I would say that the next they should really add some new tracks in that are not borrowed from the last games.
