“Winter Games” was the Winter Olympics companion to “Summer Games” and “Summer Games II,” all released by Epyx in the early 1980s. The game featured the following events: Alpine Skiing, Ski Jumping, Biathlon, Bobsled, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Luge, and Hot Dog.

Hot Dog was by far the best event, as it was a freestyle ski jumping event which allowed the player to perform back flips and other tricks.

Since the game was on the NES, the graphics and gameplay were extremely limited by today’s standard, but were fairly cutting edge for the day.

The player could represent one of 17 nations, or the Epyx nation. All this did was determine which national anthem was played if the player won the gold medal in an event.

“Winter Games” was a cool game for its time, as were the other Olympics-themed games released by Epyx, and it kept me amused for hours at a time in my early days of videogaming.
