Probably my favorite football game ever. The general feeling - the passing and movement - and the gameplay is excellent.

Known as Pro Evolution 6 in Europe, it followed the very successful PES 5 in terms of good passing and shooting, but tweaked the movements, defence and general feel. Differences in stats really matter: Now you could hit that perfect through ball with the right player ,your Fabregas', Xavi's and Pirlo's, all you have to do is make yourself some space, look for a player's run and press through ball. If your player doesn't have the passing ability, chances are it won't work. The same goes for shooting, especially from distance, set pieces, tackling, strength and so on. FIFA didn't get around to realizing there had to be a difference between the way, say, Scholes and Wes Brown hits a pass until around FIFA 09, which is probably my second favorite football game ever made.

The gameplay is wonderful. Good movement from the AI both your teammates and the opposition. The passing is crisp (again, especially with the right team/players), and shooting is very fun: you can sense when you really hit the ball the right way, and conversely when you'll miss it completely. Free kicks are very good, too. Up and over the wall, or straight as an arrow and hard.

Speed and dribbling needed to be applied with caution. No longer could you just sprint past any opposition. Timing in passing and movement was key, and made the longevity of the game even better.

The Master League, already a big hit, was even more fun with four top leagues (and one second tier in the first), and since the player's individual abilities plays such a part of the way your team could play, building the perfect team became even more fun than before.
