360,000 Spore creatures created

Response to the upcoming sim's monster maker has been "overwhelming," says EA, with two varmints uploaded every second.

Will Wright's simulation game Spore might not be getting its first releases until September 5, but Electronic Arts yesterday launched part of the game--the Spore Creature Creator.

As suggested by the title, the toolkit lets gamers make weird and wonderful creations which they can later use in the full game. In the first 24 hours that the Spore Creature Creator was available, over 250,000 alien life forms were designed and posted online on the Sporepedia.

Electronic Arts noted that breaks down to more than two creatures a second, and at one stage 1,000 monsters were uploaded in a minute. Spore executive producer Lucy Bradshaw said that the response was "overwhelming."

    on youtube there are a lot of videos of penis monsters! i hope that none of them are put into the final game! it would be strange if there was a galaxy full of penis creatures.

    I thought EA was evil and stupid, and only made crappy games. A lot of people loved the Orange Box and a lot will like this game. So people should stop whining comments without facts.

    BUT, it's quite limited, still, for what it is it's downright amazing and I spend hours and hours on my creatures.

    If I buy the retail version of Spore Creature Creator, do I get $10 off for the final game? If not, then EA is such a rip-off!! I would rather pay and enjoy the game legitimately. So, EA, don't force me to go the other way!! You know what I mean!

    This demo is just amazing, I enjoy creating a new unique creature each time. I cant wait for this game to be released.

    This game will be cool as long as furries don't find it and infest the galaxy with furgots. It might be fun to exterminate them though

    The spore server still refuses to accept my "penisauraus" character ;( He really is a cool little fella. I suppose I should modify him for PG13..

    I tried to download the trial on both my pc and my mac and it didn't work on either. Apparently my pc's graphics card is randomly not supported and I don't know what's up with the mac.
    I did some searching online and found that unsupported graphics cards to be a fairly common problem. For a game so anticipated by both the casual and hardcore crowd, you'd think that the hardware support would be more generous.

    I have made a 12 or so and shared a few them. It will be cool when we can see other peoples creatures. Right now you can only see yours and the ones made by Maxis. I am also curious to know how they are going to screen 360,000 creatures to be used with the full game, considering the pornographic nature of some of the ones I have seen on You Tube.

    I do enjoy the demo, and I think this game is shaping up to be pretty great, but I want to hear more about the technical aspects. I remember Will talking about new compression methods used in Spore during a press conference a long time back. I'd like to hear more about that!

    If you download the game from the site after the creature creator you get the game for full price but the creature creater price is taken off

    Bought the full thing - hope when the game comes out there some extra perk for people that bought the creature creator...
