Big in Japan June 29-July 5: Wii Sports Resort orders another mai tai

Nintendo's minigame compilation again tops Media Create's weekly chart, selling 155,000; DSi's 46,855 tops hardware.

Wii Sports Resort won't hit the US until later this month, but Nintendo's latest accessible minigame compilation is already making waves in Japan. Opening to nearly 360,000 units in mid-June, the Wii MotionPlus-bundled game posted another strong performance during its second week on the market. Media Create reports this week that Wii Sports Resort topped its Japanese software sales chart for the week of June 29-July 5 with 155,000 units sold.

Sega's rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Project Diva for the PSP scored the week's biggest debut, opening with 101,000 units and taking the second slot in Media Create's chart. Nintendo's Tomodachi Collection for the DS followed with 63,000 units, and Sony's PSP title Boku no Natsuyasumi 4: Seitouchi Shounen Tanteidan, Boku to Himitsu no Chizu debuted to 50,000 unit sales. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite the Best, which Capcom said had just recently surpassed the 1 million unit mark, sold 14,000 more copies.

Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days scored the sixth position during the week with 13,000 units sold, followed by Level 5's Sloane and MacHale's Mysterious Story and Ken to Mahou to Gakuen Mono 2 with 12,000 units a piece. Gust's Rorona no Atelier: Arland no Renkinjutsushi for the PS3 shifted 11,000 copies, and Sega's Infinite Space rounded out the chart with 10,000 units sold.

On the hardware front, Nintendo's DSi and DS Lite combined to sell 54,362 systems, making it the top-selling platform during the week. The PSP followed with 32,849 units, while Nintendo's Wii led console sales with 24,971 units. The PlayStation 3 sold 11,196 units during the week, while the Xbox 360's 5,876 units edged past the PlayStation 2's 3,734 systems.

Can't believe Wii Sport Resort beat Project Diva. But then again Wii owners are being be starved of games. So they're desperate for anything thing Nintendo throws at them. Sad really...

Wii Sports Resort is number 1, followed by a rhythm game with "Project Diva" in the title. Hmm, no joke is really necessary here.

So that's 155,000 people who are going to be annoyed when they realise that they need to buy another WM+ to enjoy the multiplayer part.
