NewsSpots: Xbox Live demos, Family Guy, Fishing Master

TimeShift and NHL 08 demoed on XBL; Stewie plans invasion of Xbox Marketplace; Hudson takes up the rod and reel.

TimeShift, NHL 08 get 360 demos
Microsoft already announced its first Xbox Live Arcade sale and next week's new releases, but that isn't all the online 360 news today. There are a pair of new demos up on the service, as samples of Electronic Arts' NHL 08 and Vivendi Games' TimeShift have both been made available for download. The TimeShift demo gives players a taste of the first-person shooter's time-altering gameplay, while the NHL 08 demo lets players decide a Stanley Cup Finals rematch with a period of play (and possible shootout) between the Anaheim Ducks and the Ottawa Senators. EA has said it is also planning to release a PlayStation 3 version of the NHL 08 demo. TimeShift is rated M for Mature and is slated to arrive on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on October 30. NHL 08 will skate to the PS3, PS2, Xbox 360, and PC on September 11 and is rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older.

Family Guy to hit Video Marketplace
Peter Griffin and co. are headed for the Xbox Live Video Marketplace. Twentieth Century Fox and Microsoft today announced that beginning Sunday, September 2, episodes from the first two seasons of Family Guy and the film Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story would be available on the Xbox 360's downloadable video service. These initial offerings will be followed by Family Guy seasons five and six on September 18 and October 1, respectively. The videos have not yet been priced.

Hudson casts line on Fishing Master
Hudson Entertainment today announced that Fishing Master for the Nintendo Wii has gone gold and will ship to retail shelves on September 18. Incorporating the Wii's motion-sensing technology, Fishing Master uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to mimic real-world fishing. Players will be able to cast their line, wait for a bite, and then battle a number of different types of fish. The game is playable in single-player mode as well as a four-player multiplayer mode. Fishing Master is available for $39.99. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's E3 preview.

Played the Timeshift demo. Boy did it suck. The graphics were lousy and so was the gameplay. What a disappointment. Glad I played the demo as I won't be looking forward to picking this up any more.

TimeShift demo was awesome. I don't know what crackpipe the naysayers are smoking. Probably bioshock trolls.

TimeShift is a ripoff of every half-decent shooter that preceded it. The influences of HalfLife 2 are very clear, but the quality of the aforementioned just simply isn't there.

Well, it's a good thing I wasn't looking forward to TimeShift, as I didn't really care for the demo one bit. As a FPS this game is pretty standard, but the time function just feels cheap. And you start the demo without a weapon in hand, but oops, there's one on the ground, what's up with that?

Look people just go to a Best Buy or Circuit City and buy the damn boxsets. Knowing Microsoft they are going to charge an arm and a leg and clearly they will over charge per episode. It is cheeper to get off your a$$es and go to a store and buy the damn DVD's.

ugh.. timeshift demo is a waste of HDD space if u ask me.

only cool thing was bein able to freeze time and steal enemies guns.
and usin the time effects made it WAY to hard to hit enemies at a distance!!!!

worth a try.. but im not gonna buy.

'"m_stifler are the graphics in the timeshift demo the best you've ever seen or what?????? there is not ONE bad or blurry texture.........i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw it + it runs pretty damn fast too!
makes me wander why not all games run and look as good as this, blows gears right off the throne :-O

    Posted Aug 31, 2007 1:22 am CT "'

Well it HAS had A LOT of time in development, plus the new havoks version 4.5 probly doesn't hurt it either.

Is it true that someone has managed to break the light barrier in reallife? How soon can we expect a real time shifting suit?

'"BigDaveyDogz Timeshift demo was ok...a possible rent for me."'

curious which demo did you try, BigDaveyDogz? The new one or the old one. I'm DLing the new one now as I type. UPDATE I'm playing it now. The way this game plays may surprise you. You may have context sensitive time controls BUT you also have the option to overrie S.S.A.M.'s context sensitive choice. Ie you can STILL choose which power you want to use when you want to use it with a button combo. sigh, back to the game so far I'm loving it
