Nintendo lays out Q1 Wii slate

A dozen more games expected to arrive on store shelves through March; Mario Kart 64 powerslides onto VC next week.

With WarioWare: Smooth Moves standing as the sole retail Wii release since the middle of December, owners of the new system may foster worries of a postlaunch drought of new games. However, those same owners may find comfort today, as Nintendo has released a slate of a dozen Wii games scheduled for release by the end of March.

While the Nintendo faithful will have to endure a few dry weeks (Wii Play with Wii Remote is the only release before March), a number of high-profile franchises are set to hit the system by the end of the quarter. Ubisoft is down for bringing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Prince of Persia series to the Wii, while Sega is ready to offer gamers Sonic and the Secret Rings. Electronic Arts is also bringing some famous faces to the system in the form of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, SSX Blur, The Godather: Blackhand Edition, and Medal of Honor: Vanguard.

However, this list may not be comprehensive. Earlier today, Ubisoft released a list of its own expected first-quarter releases as part of its financial earnings statement, and that list indicated Driver: Parallel Lines for the Wii would also make it to store shelves in the first quarter. A Nintendo representative had not returned our request for comment as of press time, but an Ubisoft spokesperson reiterated that the game will be released before the end of March.

There's also the matter of Virtual Console games. Sega has already committed to bringing five more titles to the downloadable service in the first quarter, and Nintendo said it will bring Mario Kart 64 to the Virtual Console "next week." Nintendo has said that Monday would be the launch day for downloadable games on its digital distribution service, but in the past exceptions have been made.

Nintendo's full list of expected first-quarter retail releases follows below:

February 14--Wii Play with Wii Remote--Nintendo
March 27--Disney's Meet the Robinsons--Buena Vista
March--Bust-A-Move Bash--Majesco
March--Prince of Persia Rival Swords--Ubisoft

March--Bionicle Heroes--Eidos
March--Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII--Ubisoft
Q1--Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07--EA
Q1--SSX Blur--EA
Q1--The Godfather: Blackhand Edition--EA
Q1--Medal of Honor: Vanguard--EA
Q1--Sonic and the Secret Rings--Sega

I like it a lot but not totally. You have some nice speed and cool moves but you have no control over the camera and there is no mission mode! and no free play

as far as value goes, wii play definitly comes out on top. it comes with a wii remote, which is $40 otherwise. so you're paying $10 for the actual game

Yeah some of these tittles we've seen before, but I think the wii-mote should add a certain something-something to them. I can't wait for a golf game with more thought put into it than Wii Sport's little 9 wholes. Have not ever wished to actually using the Turtles katanas, swords, stick, ect. Can you imagine a game like God Of War on the Wii, I would love pulling on my controllers to remove those darn harpie wings. So cut Nintendo a break.

Am I the only one who sees this lineup as very lame? Prince of Persia is supposedly the same game as Two Thrones. TMNT....uh no! Tiger Woods is on every other system as well as Godfather. Sonic sucks now. SSX Blur can go either way. Disney's Meet the Robinsons---LMAO! I bash Nintendo a lot, and this lineup just fuels the fire...

The reason OoT isnt out yet is competition. That is a game they KNOW people will buy, so while yes if you wait for more people to have Wii's that could be true. But also think of it this way. When Halo 3 or GTA IV come out, what will nintendo have to rely on? They're saving the good stuff for later, when its needed. That and if they put out Zelda now no one would ever think about getting the other games which might not have had a chance at all to sell.

I really wonder why they havent released Ocarina of Time yet...
Only reason i can think of is that theyre waiting for more Wiis to sell, that way a ton more ppl will download it...

    Obi

Your hinting at emulation,I'd rather OWN my games then play some crap copy of them.

It's my hope Nintendo/Sony and MS not only go after the people supplying these Games but also go after the people downloading them,You are a thorn in the gaming biz side that should be removed.

Mario Kart 64 could have been great for da Wii if it had online play connectivity in the Wii, but all the emulated games are fixed as they are in their original state. Lol, of course Nintendo wouldn't want to diminish the appeal of the possible online play for their future Mario Kart Wii game by doing that!

The VC game price range is really, really bad, & total rip-offs. Don't ever pay for them. Hint: you can get them for free & play them "somewhere else" along with the can't-miss-em graphical filters to vastly improve the image quality (like 2D & maybe 3D anti-aliasing, etc).

mingomike, I don't think Mario Kart 64 will be online. Yeah that would be fun, but I think Nintendo is going to be saving that feature for the Wii version. Too bad I don't have a DS. That way I could get a taste of what that will be like >.>

Wonder if they can offer Mario Kart 64 as an oline player game - now that would be fun - as far as the releases go, nothing to great seems to be coming really.
