Shaun White sells 3 million, sequel teased

Ubisoft tells investors to "expect more" installments in the hot-selling new snowboarding franchise.

Today, Ubisoft reported fiscal-year earnings that defied the pervasive gloom dominating the current economic landscape, saying that earnings during the period had risen 14 percent to €1.05 billion ($1.50 billion). A significant contributor to the company's strong performance was Shaun White Snowboarding, with Ubisoft explicitly calling out the Wii edition as putting on a "very strong showing."

In a postearnings conference call with investors, Ubisoft offered more color on just how well the game performed, with CEO Yves Guillemot saying that the Shaun White franchise has now achieved sales of 3 million units. Given that strong performance, it came as no surprise when Guillemot then confirmed that Ubisoft intends to release new installments in the franchise.

"You can expect more Shaun White in the future," Guillemot plainly told investors. Unfortunately, the Ubisoft executive did not provide a time frame in which the next installment in the Shaun White franchise would surface. Currently, the publisher does not have it penciled in for release during its current fiscal year, which runs through March 31, 2010.

Though the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, DS, and PC editions of the game left critics cool on their launch in November, Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip for the Wii earned generally positive reviews.

The maligned Xbox 360 edition in action.

Shame on me for getting this game at the CC closeout. It was so lame. It did replicate the real snowboarding experience, but as the game I wanted SSX Tricky style. So boring after 10 mins of playing. The best thing I did was sold it to gamestop.

This game sucks sooooooo bad. I got mine and was ready to take it back after wasting a half an hour on the lame controls. All the way to the store and home, visions of a next-gen SSX danced in my head... sigh... but it was not to be. Now they're telling me there's plans for a sequel? DAMN.

lol and I thought it was ridiculous that Tomb raider sold thousands of copies. I really do hope they don't screw up the next one and do that thing with target again. There are no good snowboarding games.

It truly is a sad day when such a poor excuse for a game sells 3 million and warrants a sequel. I hope they spend more time smoothing out controls for the second game so it's actually playable without the balance board and especially on other systems. But I already know they won't.

I rented this game and its a fun game to just spend hours going down the hills, but I wouldn't spend $60 for it unless it came with free snowboarding lessons.

if they had a free play, my review would have gone from 6.5 to 8.0, but sadly, there is no free play! I mean c'mon. And I can understand why the wii is selling the most, duh! the balance board makes it seem as if ur snowboarding, yes they mentioned, but its obvious
