Pro Evo Soccer kickin' it on Wii

Konami confirms long-running footie franchise to arrive on Nintendo's newest system early next year.

Few game genres have a broader appeal than sports games, and no sport is more popular worldwide than soccer. Given Nintendo's emphasis on expanding its appeal beyond the traditional gamer market, soccer is a natural choice for Wii games. Electronic Arts has already announced that it will hit the Wii pitch with FIFA Soccer 08 and Mii support this fall, but it will not have the system's soccer market to itself for long.

Konami today announced that its long-running Pro Evolution Soccer series (sometimes known as Winning Eleven) will be arriving on the Wii in the first quarter of next year. Simply called Pro Evolution Soccer for now, the Wii version of the series has "undergone a radical rethink" to be built around the system's motion-sensing controllers. Despite that, Konami is promising the same level of realism seen in previous editions of Pro Evolution Soccer.

Gamers eager for a new installment of the series this year can look for Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, to be released in October for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, DS, PlayStation Portable, and PC.

I just hope theres not as much disapointment as there was with the features on Fifa 08 wich was very limited. None the less I'm looking forward to playing PES on Wii. Give PS3 & X-BOX a run for there money!!!

I can't understand what a footy game would be like on the wii, but it must be good news for the people making the game.

I, actually, for once don't want them to "try" to add motion sensing into the gameplay...

just port the game over and I'll be happy as hell especially if they have online mode

I'm excited as **** I was all bumped out because I was going to have to get Fifa as no Winning Eleven was announced and I'm dying for a more realistic soccer game than "Soccer" (NES VC). I can't wait to get this, my last edition was Winning Eleven 7 on the PS2, but have loved Konami's soccer games more than EA's since the 64.

Usually I don't leave negative comments but all football games are a huge snore fest. Boring.

Everyone one on this board that stated playing with your hands is wrong for this type of game is right, but as one can plainly see that is the only way we will be playing soccer on the Wii for the time being. Only when they come up with shin guards and cleat motion sensing aparatus will we be able to play using feet only. Hey, I can dream can't I ?!

Horray!!! Now that the Wii is getting both Fifa 08 and PES 08, it will be so cool to play them both and see the differences in gameplay. Although I think they will be minor. Finally, who on this board is happy that Rockstat is supporting the Wii with two awesome games?!?! ( Manhunt 2 and Table Tennis) Woot!! Now I can finally rest quietly knowing that my new console wont go unnoticed. Just bring a GTA game to the Wii Rockstar, pretty please. I do congratulate you though on bringing the highly salivated over Bully to Wii...that will sell like hotcakes in a Sam's Club store-presumably.

If Pro Evolution Soccer is gonna be on the Wii it means the Wii is a very popular console. It was the best game series on PS2. It could be brilliant if the controls are right.

This is very important in Europe and could be a securing factor in the Wii's position in Europe. Pro Evo has always been an important title on any home console in Europe.

I am glad that my previous comments about the series coming to the Wii or risk being hammered by FIFA, but now it will be a close battle.
