NBA Live 08 soundtrack goes globe-trotting

EA's annual pro basketball sim features 19 international artists, including Datarock, Joss Stone, DJ Vadim, and LCD Soundsystem.

Traditionally the sound most associated with basketball, hip-hop has dominated the soundtracks for past installments in EA Sports' NBA Live pro hoops sim. However, as it did earlier this month with the FIFA 08 soundtrack, EA has announced that the NBA Live 08 set list will include an international mix of styles, from hip-hop to electronic to rock.

The Hives take the court.

EA has tapped 19 acts from across the globe for the latest in its pro baller series. The eclectic soundtrack includes tunes from Norwegian dance-punk trio Datarock, Latino hip-hop/R&B crooners The Dey, and Swedish garage-rockers The Hives.

NBA Live 08 drives to store shelves on October 2 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Wii. A PC version is also expected in late October. Free trials of the game are currently available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.

    Why would you be listening to the songs and not playing the game, that's the point of the game to play not listen to the songs.

    The only song I've listened too a lot on that is All I know by DJ Jazzy Jeff feat. C.L. Smooth. Man that is some great hip-hop. KRS-One is awesome too. The rest I don't know.

    I haven't of a single song on this list. Most people will probably use their custom tracks anyway.

    I've only heard of 3 of those songs and maybe 6 of the artists. I agree with the others, why fix something that isn't broken?

    last time i checked hip hop and basketball go hand in hand ,the hives probablly cant even play basketball

    This is so dumb. It's a basketball game. All the music you want in a basketball game is hip-hop. Yet another reason why Live sucks and will never compare to 2K.

    I have no clue if these songs are good or not, but I'm just glad there's something other than hip-hop/R&B. Between Live and 2K every time I play these games I feel the need to put on a hoody, get some tats, and polish my grill.
