Lich King, Fallout 3 score MI6 awards

World of Warcraft expansion takes home top honors for Outstanding Overall Marketing Campaign; Bethesda's postnuclear RPG wins in nine categories.

With the recently completed award season honoring the best games of 2008 finally in the rear-view mirror, there was time this week for the industry's marketing segment to dole out its own awards for the best game promotions of the year.

At the MI6 Game Marketing Conference, The Daily Show alum Rob Corddry hosted an awards ceremony that saw more than 61 winners named in categories ranging from Best Limited Edition or Collector's Edition Packaging (Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning) to Most Clickable Web Site for a Product - Casual Gaming (Ben10 Alien Force Game Creator).

Taking home perhaps the night's biggest honor was World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, the launch for which earned Blizzard the Outstanding Overall Marketing Campaign award. Electronic Arts also earned praise, with "Maddenpalooza" designated the Most Effective PR Campaign of the year. Fallout 3 was no slouch either, winning nine awards, including Best Online Advertising Campaign and a runner-up honor in the Outstanding Overall Marketing Campaign category.

WoW graphics aren't amazing at all. There is nothing amazing about them lol. I can't believe you said that. They are drastically inferior to any modern game.

WoW is an awesome game, but the graphics are far from "amazing". While it's nice that it will run on virtually any modern computer, it really is being abandoned because of its dated graphics. Blizzard needs to release an optional graphics package that adds bump mapping to every texture, as well as ANY improvement in lighting effects. If they did this I'd certainly renew my subscription, but right now WoW is just an eyesore.

WoW's graphics are amazing but what really makes it strong is the fact that a graphics card to run the game could be a terrible one but could still run the game.

There is nothing over-rated about WoW, I have been playing games for all platforms for over 30 years, I have been coding games for over 20 years. I am not biased towards any company or game. World of Warcraft is THE best game period. !@#$ mmorpg or rpg, it is the best game. I am still playing the game nearly everyday, it's been 5 years, no other game can hold that honor. Fallout 3, by the way, is !@#$, nothing to do with the original titles, which were AWESOME. WOW's graphics are still great to me....ofcourse, I have everything maxed, but the cartoon style is excellent for fantasy based games. No other rpg of its vast size can compare. I play everything, including warhammer, not good by the way....graphics are horrid. I'm not the only one who feels this way, look at how many people play wow, they dont stick to it, cause it's ez, or cheap to play...lol it's solid inside and out. The coding is so tight, it makes me jealous. So continue to bash the biggest game ever, not just mmorpg, anything, games that are free to play, don't have as many people playing as wow does. The only company that will ever de-throne wow, will be blizzard themselves, remember this. Guildwars is good too, but no wow. Maybe guildwars 2 will do better in that department with its persistent universe.

Amen to ES5. Woot. As long as they fix up the NPCs and leveling, it'll be great. Even if they don't, it'll still be worth it. Bethesda has a gift when it comes to world-making.

I love the WoW advertisments that were on tv. They had that one with "mini me" or whatever and also "Ozzy Osborn." Very awsome advertizments. I don't really like the Mr. T. one though. Mr. T. to me is about as cool as David Hasslhoff or Chuck Noris.

@Sins-of-Mosin: I totally agree, there should be a lot more tv advertising for games... maybe then all the sleeper hit games could have got the popularity they deserved.

Agree with danielzajko and MrFinal Fantasy - not a big MMORPG fan - did some guild wars but not WOW (not a hater - as Elvis said 20,000,000 fans can't be wrong...). Still have issues and concerns about online gaming and computer security - (and every now and then the lack of connectivity!) - Was happy to see a single player RPG and happy with Fallout (not a Baldur's gate, but a good game nonetheless). Did max out the level and wished for more - haven't done the downloads yet - not sure how much more they give you level wise - wondering if that unlock would make it worthwhile. - reading below - looks like the DLC maight be worth it. Hope that WOW and Fallout's success increase the numbers of good RPGs in the pipeline.

We all know about WoW i mean how many players are out there.. FALLOUT 3 is great game but it could be more levels, come on, only 20 of them. You score 20hth level in about 10 hours on very hard difficulty!!!
