That game was absolutely fantastic. I love the style of gameplay, the controls, everything! Did anyone else wish that the same fighting style that was used in that game was used in this one? (If you didn't know Paper Mario: TYD used turn based combat). Not saying that I didn't like this game, I just don't really think it's a "true" Paper Mario game.

Yes I do, because it's one of the games I'm playing at the moment along with this one. I think they're both great and unique in their own ways, but Super Paper Mario could've been called by a different name and still been a good game to own. But I wouldn't mind seeing a return of turn-based combat in the next game.

For one reason or another, I bought the original Paper Mario for the N64 (via the virtual console). I quickly bought the Gamecube sequel, TTYD. it took a while (minutes, really) to get used to the game, but it's a really fun game to play (because I still intend to clear the Pit of 100 Trials). I then proceeded to buy Super Paper Mario. At first, I was disappointed by anything that wasn't the next Paper Mario turn-based-combat-game, but I've decided that Super Paper Mario is also very fun, if not a very different game.

If you need a more recent release to compare TTYD to, it's a lot like Mario and Luigi 3: Bowser's Inside story, but the game revolves around Mario and allies (and, as with the first Paper Mario, occasional control of kidnapped Peach, although the game breaks the pattern in amazing/amusing ways). It's simpler, as far as RPG go; three stats (but the decision-making element is s still there), one main character in the field (Mario), and (usually) a partner character (a Koopa/Goomba/etc.). HP and FP (the game's SP), plus items of all varieties. It's a very solid purchase, and well worth the price of the disc.

Of course, the price of playing them so far behind schedule is that I barely managed to buy a used copy of Super Paper Mario and I'm still waiting for the next game like everyone else.

TTYD IMO is the best of the series edging out the original. Both are up there in my favorites. Unforuntely I dont have the same feeling with SPM Ive played through the others twice or three times but I didnt for this one.
