Amazon now selling WiiWare game

Earlier this month, online retailer Amazon opened up an Xbox Live Arcade section of its site, from which customers could purchase download codes for about half the games on Microsoft's Xbox 360 digital distribution service. This week the retailer added the Wii to its list of consoles for which it sells downloadable game codes, but the selection is relatively sparse.

However, what Amazon's WiiWare selection lacks in quantity it arguably makes up for in average quality. A GameSpot scan of the site turned up just a single WiiWare game on Amazon's site, the critically acclaimed World of Goo. One of the game's two developers, Kyle Gabler, told GameSpot that while he was happy to see the game available on the site, he had nothing to do with it.

"This is all Nintendo's doing," Gabler said. "We're just happy to be along for the ride as the first game they put on Amazon."

In a post on the developer's official blog, Gabler pointed out the importance of the Amazon availability. Gabler said it provides potential customers who aren't already hooked up with Nintendo's online service a familiar introduction point, as well as clear instructions on how to obtain the game through the system.

As of press time, Nintendo had not returned a request for comment on when it might expand the selection of WiiWare games available on Amazon.

    Amazon's a good place to buy games, because they usually got discounts on them.

    Amazon sells games cheaper and some times WII points and Xbox live points cheaper then at retail stores. Maybe the download stuff will be cheaper also? Amazon is a really nice place to shop for games, I have saved a lot of money by purchasing games from their site. Never had a bad experience buying anything from Amazon.

    If Nintendo would put the rest of its online library on Amazon, that would be great.
    Anything so that I don't have to buy Wii Points.
    Honestly, I would have probably bought more Wiiware and VC games, but I just don't like giving Nintendo $20, spending (maybe) $16, and then having that $4 just sitting there - unusable until I give Nintendo more money.

    I'll still prefer the method of buying Wii Points, but it is good to have this option available as well.

    I think I'll just use the Wii's Shopping Channel to keep buying games. I don't want to go through any hassles and such.

    hum i don't see it, OH WAIT, of course even tho I am on uk.gamespot.com it doesn;t seem to say in the article anwhere that this seems to be US ONLY.

    Seriously US != All, its not difficult to add a line saying "This only applies to amazon.com"

    This is cool. This will help legitimize the game download market more for people who haven't checked out the Wii and Xbox stores yet. I am also glad to see World of Goo put up. I feel sorry for the developers since Goo was rated one of the most pirated games of last year. I hope it sells well for them.

    This is good for two reasons: it brings awareness of WiiWare games to a greater audience of people. Many Wii owners still don't know that they can download new games to play online.

    And like TheNeo911 said, it allows you to purchase the game without extra points. A big hang-up for me is having unused Wii/Nintendo points sitting on my account not being used for months, and affects what games I download. I don't understand why the Wii Shop won't just let you buy exactly how many points you want.

    Who would use amazon instead of wiiware or xbl?
    I just don't see the point.

    cool but it looks like it is more or less the same price so there really is no reason to use amazon if you are already set up with the wii shop channel.
