Green Day dawns on Rock Band July 7

Punk trio's exclusive partnership with MTV Games' franchise kicks off with three-song DLC pack next month, more songs and projects to follow.

Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong has been neither shy nor overly descriptive about his band's upcoming debut in Rock Band. So while it's been known that the punk rockers' music would be appearing in the rhythm game franchise, there's been some question as to whether it would be in the form of downloadable tracks, a full album, or a stand-alone retail product, such as The Beatles: Rock Band or AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack.

The answer might be "all of the above." MTV Games today confirmed that Green Day's music will be appearing in Rock Band starting next month. While the company only announced a July 7 launch for three songs from the band's latest album, 21st Century Breakdown, it noted that, "Additional Green Day songs and projects will be announced at a later date."

The three-song pack will include "21 Guns," "Know Your Enemy" (seen below), and "East Jesus Nowhere." MTV Games did not specify if the game's downloadable storefronts for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii would all be receiving the content that week.

Having a a rockband with green day songs wouldn't be bad but I whole game with it, not such a great idea. They have seen that most of the Artist focused games haven't done so well, yet they keep making them. I think they should stick to making games with a single music genre in mind or they ones with many different music genres.

i've been waiting for some Green Day on Rock Band . . . but I was hoping for some older stuff like Basketcase. I wouldn't playing a few songs off their last album, but I've only heard the one single of the current release.

I'm guessing its just more downloadable tracks in the future....I still can't see an entire game based on Green Day alone but I could be entirely wrong

this band makes songs that i would only play once just to say that I 5 starred it. And i would never play them again. Other than good riddance i cant think of a desirable song.

Well... they're certainly an ... "interesting" choice for their own Rock Band game. The good news is, they'll likely do with this what they do with all band-centered rhythm release and show their progression... which means a ton of pretty good pop/punk songs. That is, if they have the balls to start them where they actually began in the late 80's. Doubt it.

They're a very influential band... but in staying relevant they became boring and bland.

gamepunk86 nailed that one on the head. At least they're bound to release some Dookie material later on.

Woo punk! Simplistic yet catchy. It's a unique style, and most people who don't like Green Day simply don't appreciate punk rock for what it is: simple. But hey, that's cool too.

green day turned into a melodramatic fake-political act with american idiot and is trying to recreate those sales again with their new lame album.

As far as Green Day being skilled musicians, they do have a decent drummer, but what punk band doesn't? =P

LOL i kinda agree about know your enemy. i thought it was a less frantic and much more slow paced version of american idiot and the drums were straight off of extrodinary girl.

To all the people using the excuse that green day sold out, every body sells out, that's the point. If I was a musician I would sell out in a heartbeat if it meant making millions of dollars. I have loved every single green day album and IMO 21st century breakdown is one of, if not the best album they have put out yet. The only album I didn't like was Shenanigans, but that was just all their B-sides anyway. I notice a bunch of green day haters here, but i bet anything this track pack sells extremely well.
