Shippin' Out Mar. 29-Apr. 4: Guitar Hero: Metallica, Don King Boxing

The Mighty Met takes the stage on the Xbox 360, PS3 this week, as the most splendiferous boxing promoter pops Wii and DS, Braid entangles PC, Major Minor's Majestic March steps off.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith proved to be an unmitigated success for Activision, selling in excess of 2 million units in the US across multiple platforms through February 2009, according to the NPD Group. The publisher is undoubtedly hoping to encore that success with Guitar Hero: Metallica, the second installment in the billion-dollar franchise to be devoted to a single band.

Guitar Hero: Metallica for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 features the titular thrash-metal kings, as well as 21 other acts that acted as influences or were influenced by the band. In all, the game includes more than 45 playable tracks, which make use of the microphone and drum-kit peripherals introduced with Guitar Hero World Tour, in addition to the standard guitar and bass fare. GH: Metallica also brings a handful of new features to the franchise, including the Expert+ difficulty setting.

Those looking for a bit more sousaphone in their rhythm-game escapades can alternatively pick up Majesco's Major Minor's Majestic March for the Wii. Majesco will be bringing to market Gardening Mama for the DS, as well. 2K Sports will also be adding a title to both of Nintendo's platforms this week, with Don King Boxing rumbling onto the Wii and DS.

Those who missed Jonathan Blow's award-winning puzzle-platformer Braid on the Xbox 360 last year will be pleased to know that the PC edition will arrive at retail and a variety of downloadable storefronts this week. Xbox 360 and PC gamers will also be able to pick up Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust, courtesy of Codemasters. Lastly, while Duke Nukem Forever remains a work in progress, Apogee Software will bring the Duke Nukem Trilogy to retail shelves this week on the PSP and DS.

Check back later in the week for GameSpot's reviews of the week's debuts. For a full rundown of every new game, check out the New Releases page.

I can't beleive GameSpot gave GH Metallica a 7.5. So far in their little tracker, they have given GH Metallica the lowerest score. This game is way better than a 7.5. In fact the only complaint I have about GH Metallica is the DLC issue. You make another full band game and only allow the Metallica DLC to xfer over, lame, let all of the DLC xfer over, that would have made sense. Otherwise the sound track is great, the presentation is great, the game looks great and honeslty this is a GIANT step from GH Aerosmith, which now looking back on GH Aerosmith, this Metallica one makes it look like crap. Aerosmith was fun at the time, but so far for the GH games that been on the 360, Aerosmith was the worst won, yet still a good game.

I had a lot of fun with GH: Metallica, not a big fan, but the songs are fun to play and the addtional bands they chose are a big plus. I cannot believe they included Mommy's Little Monster from Social Distortion. Overall a very solid entry in the GH Franchise.

Metallica is my all time favorite band and will gladly pick this up after work today.

That being said, I tend to agree with other posts here that it's time to stop the GH: band specific releases.

How about GH: Metal which could include Slayer, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, etc. Or GH: Glam Poison, Def Leppard, etc.

I agree! Step it up GS! I just renewed my Plus membership. Be more accurate and just give us the straight fact instead of all that nonsense above.

On the subject though, never been a fan of Metallica. Might pick this up for the other bands on the disc. A few Met songs I can stand like "No Leaf Clover" and FWTBT, and maybe Enter Sandman...

And yes, Braid PC was delayed, come on GS...

    @LordInvernus

Too bad they won't release a game on your opinion alone. Obviously they released Metallica because of its mass audience (or a way to shut Lars up about Metallica DLC). I'd also like to see a Guitar Hero: Rush, meh, GH doesn't like Rush (I bought Rock Band 2 just for the Rush songs).

And lol about the Duke Nukem Trilogy. They could've made it sound more realistic. And is the "Wii coming later this year" a joke too?

Duke Nukem's trilogy is defiantly an april's fool joke, if it isn't then i might have to pick it up.

I think if people stop their complaining and actually play GH: Metallica, they'd be blown away. This is the best one since 2, the charts are unbelievable in the game, and there is no song where you go "ugh, let's get this over with". I'm very happy with the purchase and I think more should give it a chance.

@tyrant2004 Amen to you man...where is GH: Iron Maiden then. I would much rather have that than Metallica. I've been a Maiden fan a lot longer..I have have their music on these plastic large round things called...records (vinyl)...hahaha. Actually, I think I'd rather even have GH: Megadeth than Metallica. Maybe it's cause their new tool of a bass player just bothers me to no end.. eh..oh well

I have always enjoyed their music but they whole new Guitar Hero every 5 months is going to destroy the genre. It already has for me, I stopped buying them a while ago.

All of you haters have to stop living in the past.

I'm glad to see my favorite band get a game that they deserve. Hopefully their music reaches millions more because of it.

Lars Ulrich has admitted that he was a giant d0uche about the music downloads. Maybe some Metallica haters and RB fanboys should drop it as he has.

hum. . if i remember correctly, metallica was one of the first bands who fought against musical downloads and just about anything digital or computer related. . well, look at them now, whoring themselves cause they finally figured out how to make money of it.. god knows they need a new brand spanking mansion.

Influenced, huh? What the hell about iron maiden? Can't believe these guys don't get the credit they deserve. I love metallica (the old metallica, anyway) but they wouldn't exist without Maiden.

I feel like with the arrival of GH:M, we will see a big decline in music games. Besides the Beatles there's really not many songs they haven't done that have such a mass appeal. Although I agree with everyone, GH:M makes world tour look really weak.
