Codemasters schedules Emergency Mayhem

Once-canned Acclaim action driving game set for Wii release in the second quarter of next year.

For a game about rapid response crisis teams, Emergency Mayhem is taking its sweet time getting to store shelves. First announced by Acclaim at the 2004 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Emergency Mayhem is a comic action game that put players in the roles of police, fire, and medical personnel as they race around to save a city beset by disaster.

The Xbox and PlayStation 2 title was canned and largely forgotten when Acclaim declared bankruptcy, but Warner Bros. Interactive confirmed for GameSpot that it had picked up the title for North American distribution in May of this year. However, the decision was made to move Emergency Mayhem to the Wii, with Codemasters handling the development duties.

Emergency Mayhem's long path to release is nearing its end, as Codemasters today announced a release window for the game, saying it should arrive in the second quarter of 2008.

The developer also confirmed some of the Wii-specific changes being made to the game. As catastrophes strike the city, players will need to drive to each crisis, taking shortcuts wherever possible. Once there, they will use the motion-sensing Wii Remote in one of dozens of minigames to administer CPR, disarm bombs, and wrangle escaped zoo animals, among other tasks. Emergency Mayhem will also feature multiplayer modes for up to four gamers.

WhomparStomper a "next generation nintendo system", I dont know if you know or not that the WII is essentially the same generation as the XBox1 or PS2. Most of the 3rd party games are essentially PS2 portings and this is all it is technically capable of, it is still questionable whether the WII can match the XBox1 as far as graphics go.

So I am not sure what you are expecting, but XBox1 and PS2 type games and graphics are going to be all you are going to get on the WII. The only reason it wasnt released was because acclaim went bankrupt and this obviously sat unfinished and now codemasters have picked it up and are finishing it.

This game sounds great to me - should be a party style game with a real competitive edge if they get it right - 1 player will be boring as hell, a bit like Rayman - Get 4 people trying to race to the scene of a fire to put out the flames or to an accident to resuscitate the accident victim the winner then the competition factor ups - adds a whole new meaning to the term ambulance chasers.

I'm all about the Wii, but this just sounds bad when a dropped ps2/xbox game is going to be released on the next generation nintendo console.

Lolz, that looks like the biggest rip off ever, lmao look at the kid in that picture.Another kid-drawing hopeful. Take out the kid-drawing because the Wii's audience would rather play Big Brain Academy the casual way they are. This makes me further not to by the Wii,not soley,it's just that this is just another of so many games on the Wii that are a joke and don't value to people who REALLY know games, not even hardcore gamers, just people who know what good games are.I'm fine with my 360 and I'm not planning to play controller-centered cheaplings on the Wii anytime soon.Just make an exception for Zelda, I love that series.

Just watched the trailer on GameTrailers and it looks terrible. It's like a commercial from the late 80's...

Yay Gamespot is last to say something about this game, just like everything else. Check the January issue of Nintendo Power. They already talked about it!

Sounded good up until minigames. But, who knows, maybe it'll be fun.
